hahah i saw this on the daily show a few nights ago, and letterman on wednesday... absolutely hilarious.. i love his expression as he realizes he's just made yet another mistake the world will laugh about for the next week
no matter what you think about him, at least he's entertaining to watch
I didn't check out the video. Is that the door thing in China or the wink after the non-joke? Either way, they were both incredibly funny.

it was the door thing in china... but you're right.. the wink was awesome too.. i wonder if a copy of that is somewhere on the internet

That's the first time I heard/seen that video, how funny..what a tool! Somebody explain this "wink" thing to me, I want to know!
Uh, I have no opinion of Bush (I know - I'm the one person on the planet who doesn't), but I don't see what is so funny with that clip. Wouldn't anyone's instinct be to go to the doors?

Maybe if those wacky Chinamen built entrances that resemble actual doors instead of whatever those things are

It was on Letterman two nights ago on the segment, "George W. Bush Joke That Isn't A Joke Followed By Creepy Wink."
Basically Bush told some joke that wasn't funny (I can't remember what it was) and then kind of chuckled at it himself and looked at someone to his right and winked at them. Maybe it was an inside joke...used at a press conference. I don't know.

This kinda points to a difference between US and Canadian politics. In Canada, politicians are expected to have a sense of humour and to make fun of themselves. All the party leaders go on 22 Minutes or the Rick Mercer report to be mocked. It is expected.
And when 22 Minutes used to ambush them, the political kiss of death would be showing that you're unable to laugh at yourself.
Can you see an American president doing that? Can you see Bush being interviewed in a Daily Show faux news segment? Can you see a 22 Minutes style ambush that didn't end with a bleeding comedian and smoking Secret Service pistols?
Think back to Chrétien: were he in Bush's place, he would have responded to that door gaffe by making a joke during his next speech about the failure of his exit strategy. Mulroney would have done the same.
Those guys were popular (until they shat the bed) because they had the touch.
Down south ... no sense of humour.
The "Benny Hill" theme, to me, is what makes it funny... otherwise it's OK.
