Psst... just between us. I noticed "fear" has been coming up in the other political threads, so I figured I'd put this here.
I'll be working on a Liberal campaign beginning later today. I hope the Liberals win a majority government. I hope a Liberal PM is in place when the next Quebec referendum happens. I think Paul Martin's same-sex legislation, his stance on missle-defence, his action on Aboriginal and Health commitments and his economic stewardship have earned him re-election.
I don't fear Stephen Harper. I have confidence in the Constitution and the Charter. I think Canada's institutions and national ethic, or "values" as the papers say, are stronger than any one man. Harper would only be as radical as Canadians would let him, and that's not very much.
The idea of Jason Kenney and Stockwell Day in government angers me to no end, and I'll work my ass off through countless blizzards to make sure it doesn't happen, but it doesn't scare me.
And here's another secret: If Harper gets away from the "THEY'RE EVIL I TELLS YA!!" and sticks with a message of "I'm like you, I'm middle class, and I want to pay less taxes" he'll probably win. We're not running against Stephen Harper, we're running against "Throw the bums out/Time for a change."
I won't like Stephen Harper as PM, but I won't flee the country either. In fact, a new generation is needed. A new dynamic Liberal leader needs to emerge... and a brief spell in opposition may be just what the doctor ordered for us.
But that's just between you and me.

Link appears to be broken...at least from my end.
