Wanted to fire this one off before Game 3 begins. Just wanted to say that as a baseball fan, it's great watching these teams play. Pitching and defense, and timely hitting. That is baseball to me, and both of these clubs embrace those things. I live in a National League town, so my rooting interst is with the class club from the NL Central (Bags & Biggio deserved this) but I like what Ozzie has done with the Sox.

That said, I think it's bullsh*t that Bud forced the 'stros to open the roof. It was closed for the playoffs at their discretion, and rightly so. If the freaking roof opens and closes, it should be up to the franchise to determine what it does for its stadium and its fans (as long as there isn't a direct detriment to the physical play of the game by closing the damn roof - and there's not). That's the "advantage" of "home-field advantage".

Just Bud being Bud....using the Big Britches to do what's "fair" and what's "good for the game".
bud selig is the worst commisioner over. who the fuck calls a tie game in the all-star game?

Who cares? All Star games are lame. Half assed efforts at best.
The White Sox are going to win the World Series. They seem to have gotten EVERY half-controversial call they've been involved in ruled in their favour. When you combine that with the fact they are pitching great, making all the plays on defence and getting timely hitting, then that is too much for any team to overcome. Congrats to Houston for getting there, but I'm afraid you will not be able to overcome Ozzie's boys.

I agree that he's a terrible comissioner, but I don't think anyone can top Gary Bettman as the worst commisioner in the history of sports
Bud Selig gotta go, the guy just sucks
hmmm i was thinking about that too, but dont' the jays have control of that at skydome?? or maybe big ol' 'bud' over-rides everything in the playoffs?

either way i still hope the series goes at least six games so i can watch it instead of working, not looking good now....
I stayed up and watched all 307 innings last night. I'm indifferent to the White Sox, although It'd be nice to see them win in the era of electricity.

I really don't want the Astros to win and I don't know why... I think it's because Clemens is a goon and the Bush's sitting behind home plate ruin my enjoyment of every game in Houston.

So, go Sox. I hope they sweep.

Speaking of sports, this is cool: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikeboon/5 ... /pool-tth/

Have you watched any games this year yet? Everyone is saying how much more the game has improved. Let alone the financial stability Gary has brought to the league.

Sorry to tell you, but he is going to go down as the guy who saved this game.

saved the game?? are you actually saying that without laughing..he's the reason it got so shitty in the first place...and let's not forget..he'll want to tinker around with the game after this season, and the season after that...word is the league wants even more teams in the playoffs...saved the game?? please...

No, league rules for the Rogers Centre are that the roof must be closed for all post-season games. I don't think this one can be blamed on Bud, though I don't remember when he became commissioner. This has been MLB's policy on Skydome since it was first used in 1989.
I haven't been following the world series, i don't really care about baseball.... but, what's this business about the roof? What was the reason for Bud Selig stepping in? Who does it really benefit?

Yeah, same here about the White Sox. I'm an Indians fan and don't care for either team but I'd rather see Chicago win, which is what is going to happen. Something about the camera showing Barbara Bush all game and Roger Clemens and etc.....also don't want to see Biggio and Bagwell win. I hate those sentimental sports strories like Andreychuk getting his Cup or Bourque getting his Cup or whatever....... Biggio and Bagwell suck in the playoffs, plain and simple. They don't deserve a ring. You don't deserve a ring just for playing a long time. Take game three as an example of Biggio's ineptness as a playoff performer. It seemed like every time he came up and had a chance to do something he just couldn't come through.

NOT EVERYONE is saying the game has improved. If you think it's good that it's easy to score now and there's no physical contact and players like Chris Pronger are rendered basically useless and there's no contact in front of the net so little pussies like Koivu and Ribeiro can stand in front of the net without being touched....... well, I guess the game has improved...just not in my eyes. What kind of game is hockey without the physical nature of the sport?????? The strength factor has been taken out. The physical advantage has been taken out of the game, which is a bad thing. Now, people in Toronto have to pay 500 dollars a game to watch pond hockey.....and that's a good thing????

I simply don't buy the argument that "no hooking = no physical play". Granted, the league needs to clarify what is and what isn't allowed in front of the net, but I've seen some pretty sweet open-ice hits.

I'm no Habs fan, but Koivu is hardly a pussy. Ribeiro, definitely. Koivu, absolutely not. Last year in the playoffs Koivu played with cracked ribs, torn rib cartilage and a bruised lung - and still put up 11 points in 11 games. Meanwhile, Joe Thornton played with one of those injuries (torn rib cartilage) and didn't put up a single point in seven games and was minus six. If you think Koivu's a pussy then I'd love to know what you think Disappearing Joe is.
