what a great cd...it's funky, it's jazzy, it's sexy, it's rock n roll..her passion is there, her voice has never sounded better, and her lyrics are so personal....it was worth the seven year wait!!!
Has it really been 7 years since her last record?? She almost pulled an Axl Rose with that one. It's a good thing she finally got it out. I didn't think much of her when her first album came out, but then I saw her on SNL after "When the Pawn" was released and she blew me away. Perhaps I'll have to check out the new album.

live she's one of the best i've ever seen..and i had the pleasure of meeting her, and she's just stunning in person..you should check out the new cd...after years of battling sony to actually get it out, she's met them half way and released one of the best of the year
Apparently, I have the unedited versions of the songs, before they were polished for official release. I really like the songs I have. Does the edited version sound better?

that all depends on what you like...i think some work better, in fact most do on the "real" released version...

Ok, thanks. I may have to check out the released version. Fiona is a little strange but she's unique. You gotta give her that much.
Alrighty, so I bought this album today based purely on Opiated's recommendation, and all I can say is WOW!!! This record is amazing. Definitely one of the most original albums I've heard this year. Her lyrics are incredibly cool and intelligent, her voice is gorgeous and sultry, and the songwriting is top-notch. I especially love that incredible bridge in "Better Version of Me" (track #4). Great stuff!

I read a recent article saying that the record company basically pulled a Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on her, saying they wanted her to re-record some of the tracks because they weren't commercial-sounding enough. Listening to the album, it sounds like she stuck to her guns and put it out the way she wanted to. The album is incredibly unique, and I honestly don't think radio would touch it with a ten foot pole. I love it!

Anybody have the original version that she initially submitted to Sony? How much do the songs differ from the new one? Just curious.

She did and she didn't stick to her guns. The first track and last track are from the original CD she submitted, but everything else is "reworked". Considering how much product she moves, the record company wasn't quite as willing to let her walk away as Wilco's record company was.

Just picked it up today and I'm listening to it right now. Really digging it, but I knew I would. I really liked her first two CDs. Whereas I find Norah Jones a little too lounge-ish, I really dig Fiona.
She was on Letterman last night and sang "Oh Sailor". She sounded very good and one thing I noticed was how mesmerizing it is to look at her eyes. I know it sounds silly but she's got the most incredible eyes.

and lips...she just slays me...and she's looking great putting on some weight...she looked relieved after the song was over..it's been a while since she was in the spotlight...she's breathtaking

Yes she is breathtaking and she did put on a few pounds. It's a good thing she came out with more music. She's very talented.
Just to revive this topic, I finally got my hands on the official release of her record. I gotta say I like the rough version quite a bit better. So far I'm finding the "real" version good but not nearly as intense and moving as the rough version. It seems like the songs are slowed down too much and her emotional walloping voice is lessened. "Parting Gift" isn't included on the rough version I have though. I have noticed that her vocals are clearer on the "real" version so that's alright. Still, I prefer the unedited stuff.

Having said that, any Fiona is better than a lot of stuff and both versions are high quality stuff! :thumb:

i'm sort of half and half on the rough stuff..some i like better, some not so much..o sailor is much better "rough", although it still is quite produced!!

Yeah, it also depends on my mood. The real version has a lighter, poppier sound which I prefer sometimes if I'm in the right mood. The rough stuff just hit me with such a bang though. Her emotional voice just floored me with how straightforward and raw it was.
