I can not believe what I saw last night!

My new list of best acts I have seen live goes like this

1. Radiohead
2. Arcade Fire
3. Tragically Hip

I know that is blasphemy on this site but you wouldn't believe how good the Arcade Fire was last night. Almost all of the members were multi-instrumentalists who all sang and sang well. The band was so tight for a group that only really has one major release. Every song blew my mind.

Do whatever it takes, mortgage your house, fly to bangkok do whatever you have to do to see these guys in a small venue before they absolutely blow up.

Opened with Wake Up which is a great song to open with and they played it flawlessly. Their set included most of Funeral, a bit of their EP and a couple covers including a Bruce Springsteen and New Order cover (both great).

Finished the set with Power Out which led into Rebellion (Lies) and the place went crazy.

I must say Red's, a bar/arcade/restaurant in West Ed Mall was not a great venue to see them in, it was far too small for the crowd and the acoustics for the Bell Orcheste (interesting included 3 members of Arcade Fire) and Wolf Parade (Great new Disc, good live band) were crappy, but it seemed like the Arcade Fire simply overpowered the problems and you didn't notice them at all. They are really intense and very loud live.

Last thing I want to say is how crazy these people are. Its like a modern art project watching this band play, they play broken instruments, motorcycle helmets, each other in the motorcycle helmets, the scaffolding of the stage ANYTHING they can hit with a stick or their hands. They are crazy.

Anyway, get out there and see them if you have the chance, I can say for a fact you will not be disappointed

Damn, I knew I shoulda bought Calgary tickets the morning they went on sale. I tried a couple days later and it was sold out. Looks like I'll have to wait and see them in the freakin' Saddledome the next time they come through town. With all the hype and critical praise this band has received, I'm sure they're gonna be absolutely HUGE within the next year.

I read that they recently converted an old church in Montreal into a recording studio, and as soon as their current tour is finished they're gonna hole themselves up there for the next few months working on their next record. Can't wait to hear what these guys are gonna do next. Great band!

They are a very tight bad. I really enjoyed the show in Winnipeg. I can see the band becoming HUGE, however they are a Indie band. I don't see them selling out anytime soon.

I'm not here to bash anyone or any bands, but I just haven't been able to get into these guys.... it's weird because usually I enjoy this kind of music.

You pretty much wrote exactly what I was going too. That was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. After the first couple of songs the guy beside me leans over and says "what a fucking collective" and that pretty much summed it up. I loved Regine Chassagne. Nobody does the robot better. I think I read somewhere that she fled Haiti with her family when she was young. Quite a story.

The Wolf Parade made alot of new fans as well. Tough to find a band to open for the AF but these guys did a great job. Buy their new album.

THe show was amazing here in Calgary last night too!! Wolf Parade were great as well, the keyboard singer dude had his whole family at the show apparently.
