5-3 Red Sox! God, what a great start to the weekend; Red Sox battling the Spankees and a tie ball game between Chicago and Cleveland. I agree with tigerthelion; Cleveland's offense seems really stagnant, only eight hits and Chicago's starters resting? Let's hope the Tribe doesnt pull another choker :rambo:
Tribe choked, plain and simple. I knew they wouldn't do anything in the playoffs but I just wanted them to make it. In reality, they have more holes than swiss cheese. They have VERY GOOD pitching all around but NO CLUTCH HITTING. Even when they were winning, they weren't good fundamentally. They won by hitting homeruns. Blake, Broussard and Boone have to go or it will be the same next season. There is no excuse for losing to a AAA ChiSox team that didn't care if it won or not. THe Tribe are not ready. They need a few more players and SOMEONE WHO CAN STEAL A BASE.
8 STRAIGHT! HOW'S THAT FOR DOMINATION?
i just watched the red sox-yankees game on mlb on fox and i have to say that was the worst broadcast i have ever seen...i was ready to throw my tv when they kept doing that picture in picture stuff...i understand that the chisox and indians game is interesting and important but thats not the game they chose to broadcast so just gives those in between innings breaks

I agree, I cant stand FOX for sports, well anything really, remember that glowing puck bullshit? That was the worst hockey brodcasting ever.
This has been a see-saw battle, lousy pitching effort from Wakefield today Cry Kudos to Randy Johnson, he had better stuff. I hate to say it, I'm beginning to think it would be a good idea if Cleveland just quietly faded away. It's been a good season for the Tribe but I would much rather see the Red Sox in the playoffs rather than have the Tribe slide in and get hammered in the first round.
It doesn't suprise me that Wakefield lost today. He's so inconsistent, it's hard to be as a knuckleballer. He pitches bad more than he pitches good. If he misthrows a single pitch it usually results in a homerun. If I was Boston I would not have taken the risk of putting him on the hill today, but maybe no one else was ready to go. Remeber the AL championship last year when Wakefield got rocked by the Yanks.

I hold my breath everytime that guy takes the mound. He is very prone to giving up the long ball, I dont trust him. But hey when he's on he is a great knuckler.

Even if it's a close game and Wakefield is pitching well, theres always a good chance he'll give up a big homerun late in the game.

For sure, I really dont know how they put so much faith in him, I wouldnt want my playoff life depending on him. You hang a knuckle ball over the plate and any good hitter will take it deep, its just not that effective way of pitching anymore. Thats probably why he is the only one left (that I know of).
As a huge Wake fan, but fully realizing the ups and downs of the knuckler, I think he should've been on a shorter leash today, especially if he were to be needed out of the pen for a one-game playoff.

That said, Wake has been SERIOUSLY clutch for the Sox all season when they've needed a win (given no one else in the rotation - until Wells last night - had been able to step up). As well, the homerun to Sheff was on a poorly placed "fastball", the other two were 2-out nobody on knuckleballs left high (a common Wake phenomenon), and the two sac fly's came due to a questionable "double" from a Kevin Millar miscue.

NOTE: last year they went and got Minke*$&^*%tch because they felt so strongly about the infield needing defensive improvement, but this year it's Millar and Renteria? I don't get it. And on that note, if Renteria had walked instead of striking out with the basses full (bringing up Papi-I-love-it-when-you-call-me-Big-Papi Ortiz), who knows where that game could've gone. That was the turning point right there.

Regardless, it is still fantastically entertaining to see these two team constantly messing with each other's heads.

Let's see what Schilling's got tomorrow.
I'm thinking Schilling will be fired up and raring to kick some ass, especially after one of his teammates anymously trashed him in the local paper. Schill prides himself on being a team player and I think this will be his way of rising above it all.
I hate both teams.
