Anyone out there watching this season unfold so far? I dont think USC can be beat. But odds say they will lose this season.
My MSUSpartans are flying high with Drew Stanton leading them. I wish I was going to be in East Lansing this weekend for the battle of the State.
I used to follow the NCAA very closely in the mid 90's when the Seminoles had several great teams...Warrick Dunn, Charlie Ward (now playing basketball), Derrick Brooks and many others.
Besides winning a few National Championships I unfortunately remember them losing to the ND Irish in what was then touted as the "Game of the Century" Not only did I lose bragging rights to my friend but that loss also cost me $50 bucks...which hurt back in grade 11.
I guess I still have a soft spot for the Seminoles but I'm also finding myself following the Irish a lot more seeing as they are on nearly every Saturday afternoon...that QB they have, Brady Quinn seems to have all of the markings of a legitimate NFL star.

I always liked watching the Michigan Wolverines play when I was growing up (in part because I thought their fight song kicked major butt!). Looks like this year they were seriously overrated in the preseason polls.
Anybody watch any Texas games this year? I watched the Rose Bowl last year with Michigan and Texas, it was a great game. The Texas QB, Vince Young, looked like Michael Vick taken to the next level. Wonder if his skills will translate to the pro level...

Horrible Esthete...nice avatar! Anyway... I was at the OSU-Texas game, and that was a tough one to swallow... but it was a "good loss" if there ever was one. Against a top team, early in the season - the point it, the Buckeyes can still recover and end up in Pasadena at the end the year. And for this weekend only.... GO SPARTANS!!!

I feel you, but damn....after they erased Texas' 10 pt. lead, they were in control. Should not have lost that game at home that way. Tressel's the first to blame (ultra conservative scheme, dual QB debacle) Hamby's the second (drops the same winning TD pass
twice). Simply put, our offense is better than that.
I fear that VT will not lose, and that Texas will not lose.

I'm not going to point fingers at anyone, you win as a team, and you lose as a team. I sure didn't complain about "Tressell-Ball" after the Fiesta Bowl in 2002, and I'm not going to complain about it now. As long as we win the Big Ten as we should, the Texas game will be long forgotten and we will be in one of the top two bowls. I'll take that any year. On an unrelated topic... what city do you live in? Or is it actually Chagrin Falls as your profile hints?
I can excuse player mistakes / failure (Hamby) - that shit just happens sometimes. And I even favor a conservative approach, especially in the Big Ten, so I'm not going to hate on Tressell. With a great defense (as JT always has), the ball control / field position game is so effective in college football - it minimizes your own mistakes and baits the opposition to take risks.
This approach was perfect for the 2002 team (great D, great kicking game, great rushing offense, poor passing game) and thus, he won a NC. But this 2005 team is different (great D, mediocre kicking game, mediocre rushing offense, great passing game), and the ultra-conservative philosophy might have cost us a NC this year. Letting V. Young and the 'horns hang around was playing with fire, when our bevy offensive weapons could have put it out of reach. I can't excuse that.

I have to disagree - this year's team is built around a great D, good kicking, good rushing (on the verge of being Great), and good passing. The problem with the Texas game is that we weren't able to get the rust off of Smith before we went into it. Honestly, if I'm going to lay blame, it would be on Smith. He should be a team leader, and he let the team down in a big way. If he hadn't took money from a booster, he would have played against Miami, we wouldn't have played two QBs against Texas, and yes, maybe we could have gotten it to our receivers more effectively. The passing game is not great, and it probably won't be until Smith consistently makes good decisions and Ted Ginn learns how to run a route. Passing the ball to him behind the line of scrimmage is all nice and good, but if he could more effectively run the slant route, he could just blow past everyone in the open field. This is probably verging on heresy here... but I honestly think that Ginn would best serve OSU as a cornerback. He was the #1 CB in the nation coming out of high school, so the first thing we do is change him to offense (?). Doesn't really make sense to me, but I guess that is why I'm sitting up in C Deck and JT is down there on the field. I like Ginn as a receiver as much as anyone, but I think we have plenty of talent with Holmes/Gonzalez/Hall to more than carry that load. I'd L-O-V-E to have another lockdown corner a-la Chris Gamble to play on the other side of Youbouty. Nothing wrong with Everett/Jenkins/O'Neal, but why convert a safety to CB (Everett) when you have the #1 CB in the nation squandering his time on an offense that can't get him the ball in a way that can allow him to make big-time plays? Okay... I'm ranting here so I'll just shut up.
And I grew up in Bellevue but now reside in Columbus, and I'm guessing that you may be the only person on this entire web site that knows where Bellevue Ohio is (Bellevue and Upper are both in the NOL). And sorry to bring this up... but Bellevue beat Upper 55-13 two weeks ago. Go Redmen!

Well, as Buckeye fans, I'm sure we can jaw about this stuff all the live long day. My brothers, cousins and I do it incessantly. So I guess I'll just say that I don't anticipate any more losses this year leave it at that!
I'm more intrigued that you're from Bellevue! Small world, huh? The Redmen can take the football win - we're still giddy about last year's State Hoops Championship! I believe to only other NOL to win one was Bellevue (but before the NOL existed, I think).

Yes, I too was excited about Upper's state championship! I watched that game on ONN - those kids could really score some points! I don't think I've ever seen a higher scoring high school basketball game... speaking of which, I heard that the one kid (can't remember his name now) was thinking of backing off his Valpo commitment and heading to Columbus to be a Buckeye! That would be very exciting - I can't remember the last NOL kid to end up at OSU, if there ever has even been one. I played some baseball in high school, but not for the high school team. I played Pony League and on some travel teams, but opted out of high school. Honestly, I wasn't very good and I really wanted a car at the time... so I basically opted out of baseball and into a job at a local grocery store... you know, dream #2. Some decisions you just can't take back. Anyway, I graduated HS in 98, so you were a little ahead of me. Although... when you played we may have still had Brian Schubert pitching for us - does that ring a bell? He ended up spending some time in the Tigers organization before giving it up, losing his hair, and becoming the Principal at Bellevue HS. Not sure if you've seen this, but the Indians drafted someone from Bellevue in the first round a few years back - Brad Snyder. He is actually a distant cousin of mine (his mom is my dad's first cousin... I guess that is my claim to fame) - and we played on the same team in Little League. I batted 4th my last year in LL, and in his first year he batted 5th behind me... so maybe I was better than I thought ;-)
I certainly do remember Schubert! But there were two of them (brothers) weren't there? The better baseball player of the two graduated in the mid eighties, didn't he? I never faced him, of course, but a cousin and brother of mine did. He dominated. Sorry, but I've not heard of your distant cuz getting drafted. Then again, I'm a Reds fan - just pulling for the Tribe to make the playoffs out of allegience to Ohio teams.....
Yes, Jon Diebler is the Upper BB player's name, and he already retracted his verbal commitment to play with his brother at Valpo and has since verballed to OSU. I am STOKED for Thad Matta (my man - I'm an XU grad) and his wave of recruits. Should put OSU Hoops back on the map......
My problem is that games are usually at least 3 and a half hours...too long, too many comercials (although this is just longer than an NFL game, it seems much slower)
Plus, my adopted school, Syracuse, is in the middle of yet another horrid season.
