I hope they have all of the rosters correct.
Is that just for PC? When does it hit shelves for xbox? I think it comes out later in the US.

you will be able to download the updated rosters via internet for PC and through your online connections for xbox and ps2. The rosters fit on a memory card easily so if you dont have online for the consoles, get a friend to do it.
Also NHL 94 will be included with the game, since they feel that had to go back to the roots and try to clone it. The last couple years of nhl from EA have been horrible
I just downloaded the NHL 06 demo and played it...its your typical EA sports "arcade style" hockey game. Lots of nice graphics, great sounds and good features but crappy gameplay and AI. Thank goodness for 2K sports, if there's one important aspect to video hockey its gameplay and AI and they are the best right now. EA was always the only game in town for hockey and they made some awesome games, but the last 2-3 have been total stinkers imo. They must have gotten lazy or complacent, 06 is an improvement over 05 but it still needs work to top 2K. At least with 2K the gameplay is great the AI is better but you also get a ton of Historical Teams, different rinks, all-star skills competition, pond hockey, throwback jerseys and all kinds of other stuff. NHL06 is a decent hockey game and Im sure any hockey fan will like it, but if you want the full package 2K is for the die-hard hockey fan and they got Cole and Neale for commentary, I dont care much for Neale but hearing Bob Cole's voice while I play hockey is cool, there is such a familiarity with him really makes you feel like your playing in the NHL.

Are you kidding me? I haven't bought a video game in years, but that would easily make me plunk down $50. Can you put your name in the game and hear Bob Cole say it? Is it available for PS2? Does either game reflect the new rules, does it look like the goalie equipment is sensible?

The announcers will say your last name only if its in the list of names, so unless you share the same name as a hockey player he will only say just your first name. And the cool thing about 2K sports they only charge 19.99 in the US and 29.99 CAN for their games, so its a better game and a better bargain as well. The new rules are in the games as well, and it will be available for PS2, Xbox and later on Xbox360. And the goalies look great, 2K5 was good and 2K6 will be better, and EA's graphics look great too if you decide to go that route.

i play a lot of hockey games, and even though i'm currently playing ESPN 05, i have to say that i generally like the EA games better for their gameplay, but the ESPN has cooler extras. I played at the desert rink last night and i loved it, the camels in the background were a nice touch

.
I just checked out the new rule changes demonstrated in NHL 2006 from the NHL.com website. The game looks great! I will definitely be getting this for PS2 when it comes out (the last hockey game I bought was NHL 2003, which I still play quite a bit.)
It looks like the rosters are fairly up to date, because on the "icing" demo it shows Darren McCarty playing for the Flames. I'm sure that there will be some updating of the rosters that will have to be done, but hopefully they will be pretty much up to date.
I found a couple of cracks for the demo that allow you to change all the game features like resolution, penalties, fighting etc. Also another file that allows you to play an entire game.
If anyone is interested I can post the files or email them to you.
Darren
sure, im interested. post or pm ,its up to you
thanks

I found out some more info as people were having probs (including me) on how to use these 2 files. The one .exe you run that changes the resolution can be run before you start the game. The other file that changes the rules/period/fighting etc MUST be run when you are in the demo and are at the last screen BEFORE you hit the button to play the game. ALT+TAB out run the .exe and make the changes then go back into the game and start the game. It should then work. Clear as mud?
UPDATE: There is a new version of the rule changer. Apparently the first version only allowed auto-aim shooting even though it was set on manual. It is now fixed. I've updated the file on my site.
From the .eng file:
NHL06 Demo Rules v1.1
Utility for changing RULES in NHL06Demo.
Use it, when minimaze NHL06 Demo in Last Screen ("Quick Settings").
Changes:
Fix Auto and Manual Shot aim
Add SHOOTOUT mode
You can also check the original site for updates in the future. The game comes out the 9th for consoles and the 16th for PC (i think). http://nhl.pkhl.ru/files/index.php?cid=2&sid=2
