Fellow Hipsters I'm looking to broaden my musical tastes . If anyone has any suggestions to a good starting album by any particular artists/bands , it would be much appreciated ! Any genres cool. :thumb:

Thx Mark
I am listening to alot of Coldplay and Pearl Jam
Any radiohead cd's
or bootlegs

if your interested in bootlegs i could help you out
I've been into Wilco, Ben Harper and Queens of the Stone Age lately.

Ben Harper's newest album "Diamonds on the Inside" is as good as any to get into. The DVD is probably the best musical DVD that I've ever seen and well worth a rent. :thumb:

Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is an amazing album and their latest work with Minus 5 "Down with Wilco" is really growing on me as well.

QOTSA's "Songs for the Deaf" is great as is "Rated R"

Check out Jason Mraz, hes real good. I just picked up his debut album "Waiting For My Rocket To Come" the other day. Hes a real refreshing change from what is out there right now.

Go to www.jasonmraz.com for more info and some mp3 downloads.

This one may be hard to get a hold of but there is an Albany, NY band called The Wait that is pretty good. Check out www.thewait.com for more info.

Other, more famous, bands I recommend are Finger Eleven, Our Lady Peace and Lowest of the Low.
So many choices. I listen to everything. Here is a few of my faves.

Folk/Rock: Any from Martin Sexton, not sure if he visits the great white north, but he's from Syracuse.
Speed/Thrash: Anthrax - Sound of White Noise
Punk/Rock: Bad Religion - Stranger than Fiction
Rock: Any Jimmy Buffett, Van Halen (pre-Van Cherone), ZZ Top
Ska: Any Bosstones or Toasters

I've been spinning this new band as of late, Evanescence. Anyone heard yet? I have been told that one of the songs has been on the radio lately, not sure which. Simply amazing. Somewhat of a hard, emotional sound with some of the best female lead vocals I have heard in a long time.
bring me to life is on the radio i have only heard that song though how is t he rest of it.

i would recommend jeff buckley ---- grace
anything by the catherine wheel
foo fighters and weezer
hipkid33 Wrote:Rock: Any Jimmy Buffett

Yaaa, Good to hear someone mention Jimmy Buffet. :thumb: And here I thought I was the only one.

On another note, (no pun intended) I'll also mention tool and A Perfect Circle as bands to check out. Simply amazing Confusedhock: music. The drummer from Tool, Danny, has got to be in the top 5 of all time. IMHO.

Royce,

I am happy to hear you say that! I thought I was alone! All my friends laugh at me. Shame on them and all you non-believers. He is awesome, now I need to become a true parrothead and see a show! Some day... Cry

Cheers!

Chad
Ya my friends laugh at me about it as well. They just don't get it I guess, thier loss. I can't help it though. I grew up listning to him and every song I hear is associated to good memories.

I'd love to catch a show as well, that'd be pretty cool. I heard that he used to do shows down in florida in a harbor so that parrotheads could come into the harbor on thier boats, anchor and watch the show. That would be too cool.

Nothing beats sailing in the caribbean and listning to Jimmy Buffett. 8)

Looking for my lost shaker of salt,

That would be amazing to sit on the water an just relax to "Jimmy Dreams". I'll tell you, our favorite place is the Keys! It is drop dead gorgeous there. Been there twice already and I dont have one bad thing to say. There is nothing like driving on US-1 in the middle of knowwhere, then all of a sudden you go around a curve and stop at a small drawbridge, drop the windows, and take in a deep breath of that warm ocean air and knowing that you are at the beginning... Key Largo! Only 90 miles to Key West. The best drive in the world... Enough with that. I'm gettin' depressed. Cry Cry Cry Cry
'Till the next vacation...I'll just enjoy my cheesburger in paradise in the comfort of my own home.

Cheers!

Chad
Thanks for all the suggestions . I'm going to check out all those I don't know . Feel free to add more. Thanks again.
Perhaps:

*Buffalo Tom
*The Paladins
*The Proclaimers (fun)
Evanescence is very good, the only problem is the radio stations flogging the life out of Bring me to life....totally sick of that song right now..can't wait to see them at Summerfest and hope to give a grundie to anyone at the show screaming for Bring me to life   I've gotten into this new folk rock jam band called Carbon Leaf. Its a little Gaelic, a litttle folk, some jamming and presto! try Desperation Song, The Boxer and Blue Ridge Laughing. Over and out!
Thanks for the suggestion Chris i'll check them out , I have a streak of folk in me ; Stan Rogers , Fine Crowd ,Mary McCaslin ,Lightfoot, Masterless men ,Irish Decendants etc...
