They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world. Google Talk offers you:

* Convenience: Your Gmail contacts are pre-loaded into Google Talk so inviting or talking to your friends is just a click away
Google Talk is in beta and requires a Gmail username and password.

Wow! Skype must be a little nervous. They recently hired bankers to either find someone to buy them or have an IPO.
On the downside, I ccan't get it to install at home because of some unkown disk error. On the upside, I now know I have some sort of disk error that I can spend hours and hours trying to resolve. Installation was quick and simple on my work PC, though.
Stupid hard disk errors :x
its a sleek little piece of software. needs some improvement, but thats what beta is for. can u change your display name?

I believe you can. It seems to display whatever name you enter in your Gmail account.
