Way to go Chancellor...
My mission in life has become to spread the word of these guys (and gals) as the best pop-rock band in the history of time!!!
I think all great bands make me want to make similar declarations.
I love this band...started listening to them about 2 months ago and can't get enough. They'll be playing the Ottawa Bluesfest in July and I'll definitely be in attendance for that. I must say though that I would be pretty upset if Neko wasn't there...her vocals are the driving force of this music and is what really sets this band apart from the other acts out there.
Strangely enough though I'm not as big of a fan of her solo stuff...I guess it's a little too "folky" and "twangy" for my tastes right now.
might have to drive up to Ottawa for this show
Just got back from the NP's show tonight and it was fantastic...absolutely great. Although Neko wasn't there they still sounded awesome, Kathryn did an admirable job taking care of the lead vocals on a number of tracks.
Highlights for me were a great version of The Bleeding Heart Show, Loose Translation, All for Swinging you Around and Letter from an Occupant ,the latter 2 were the encore which was an awesome way to finish the show off.
Some jackass crashed the stage late in the show right in the middle of a song and began doing a little belly dance right behind Carl Newman...being the pros that they are they just kept on playing after a little chuckle. The stage manager sauntered out on stage and dragged him off.
Other songs played if memory serves (not in order):
Mass Romantic
Jackie Dressed in Cobras
Use it
Sing me Spanish Techno
Slow Desent into Alcoholism
Miss Teen Wordpower
Testament to Youth in Verse
The Bones of an Idol
Twin Cinema
The Laws have Changed
The Fake Headlines
July Jones
Can't wait to see them again.
sounds like a delightful evening!
Last night's concert at Koolhaus was pretty good, although the sound was a bit like they were shouting into a tin can. Great live act, but they played everything at about 150% speed and they just launch from one poppy song chock full of hook-y goodness to the next.
finished with Fake Headlines and Slow Descent into Alcoholism, which are my two favourite NP songs, so that was pretty fantastic.
other songs I can recall:
Mass Romantic
Centre for Holy Wars
Twin Cinema
Bones of an Idol
Use It
Jackie Dressed in Cobras
Jessica Numbers
Stacked Crooked
Spanish Techno
Bleeding Heart Show
The End of Medicine
From Blown Speakers
All for Swinging You Around
It's Only Divine Right

That's a pretty sweet set. I wanted to go, but found out to late about it and was already slated to work.
SIGH!!!
I'm seeing them here in Calgary next Wednesday. Can't wait!
Kathryn Whatsername from Immaculate Machine took over Neko Case's role as I take it she has been on the last few NP tours ... so about 3/4 of the way into their set, some drunk guy who obviously doesn't know who Kathryn is or what Neko looks like (and who clearly had not been there for IM's set earlier) yells out "I love you Neko!!"
Kathryn: "Well, this is kind of awkward."
AC: "She's not even fucking here, man."
it was kinda funny.

The gal you are referring to is Kathryn Calder and if I'm not mistaken she is the niece of one of the band members...something tells me it's Kurt Dahle, the drummer.
I'm super pissed that I missed the show in Ottawa on Monday night, but I'm not as upset because as it turns out Neko didn't play the Otttawa date either....and I have yet to see her perform with the NP's. Not that Kathryn doesn't sound good or anything like that but, respectfully speaking, she doesn't bring that same Neko sound and vibe...doubt many could.
Sounds like a good time was had regardless CT. Glad you got to see them, they don't come around nearly enough.

It's Carl "AC" Newman. :thumb:
Big score for them for landing "Use It" as the theme for The Hour this year.
Newman and Kurt Dahle were on the intro of the last show. You can see it on the Hour web site.
Hey guess, I'm looking into discovering them, and just want to hear a few tracks before buying an album. So can you complete this sentence for me: "Poets is to the Tragically Hip as ____ is to the New Pornographers"?
Thanks
