CBC Radio opened their newscast this morning with U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday." It seemed more powerful than usual. Gotta love the power of rock.

Violence is fer chumps, cowards and extremists. Ghandi and King knew that a half century ago. It's too bad it took a tragic bombing on home soil to break up the IRA's monopoly on terror and make them realize the futility of their ways.
For the Hip Heads in that part of the world, and those of us with family there... let's hope they can stop singing that song for good this time.
yeah I agree as well...I always found the Cranberries "Zombie" to be the most moving of the whole IRA terrorism. Out from left field I know, but I'm tired and about to sleep....

Ever seen them live? Hands down the best arena show I've ever seen. Very loud, very rockin, and incredibly powerful, especially when Bono lets the crowd take over the singing on songs like "40" and "Pride (in the name of love)". Those guys know what they're doin. They're total pro.
I agree though, that Cranberries tune is great. I always liked that song.
As someone who is part Irish, I will symbolically raise a Guinness and say to the IRA, "Somewhat late... but better late than never. Cheers, laddie."
This is a welcome announcement...if it indeed turns out to be the case. Perhaps I'm a pessimist (or maybe a realist) but I don't see the IRA ending all militant activities. However, if it is indeed true, it would be wonderful to see the end of this type of violence in Ireland. It's been less than ten years since Omagh.

i have seen them live, and it was fine...just seemed a little phony to me...there's no spontaneous feel to it...and if what i hear is true, playing vertigo twice in one night is just crap....they're good, but not the best which is what they think they are
as i understand it, they only played vertigo twice in one night, on one accoasion. and that was because they were filming a video of some sort
No, they have played Vertigo twice at most stops on the European tour. It opens and closes each show. Apparently, it's something they used to do back in the '80s. Thankfully, they only did it once during the North American tour. I'd rather hear "40" at the end than Vertigo twice.

I heard of at least 4-5 times they did Vertigo twice on the North American leg, including the show I was at in New York. They've got what, 400 other songs they can play, yet they play one song twice? Pissed off, I was.
Really? I didn't realize they did it that many times on the 1st Leg. I'm headed to the second show in Toronto in September. I sure hope they don't continue the trend.

You would think that...and yet the four people I know who've seen U2 on the Vertigo tour (two in Chicago, two in Dublin) both heard "Vertigo" twice and both swear in the name of Love that it actually worked really, really well. I'm going to reserve judgment until the Toronto run (seeing the fourth show), but without having seen the show I will say this: I think it's bogus for a band that's charging fans $150 to buy its entire back catalogue at the iTunes store and then to play the same song twice in the same show. Again, I'm prepared to reserve judgment til September 17...but I
really hope they've gotten over it by then.

I'll be interested to see the U2 show reviews posted here after the four shows in Toronto. They have a completely different style live than The Hip. Will the Base have a rep at each of the shows? I'll be at the second show, Steve is at the fourth show. I believe TDC mentioned somewhere that he is going to the first show. Anyone at the third show on the Friday?
I will be at the Monday and Friday show. I had Wednesday tickets too, but I gave them to my friend who has never seen them before. I guess thats what friends are for.
