I would bet that the band will play songs like Another Midnight and especially Highway Girl again. I think it's brilliant that they haven't because when they do the fans will literally lose their voices. It will be HUGE. I think the tease/forshadowing of this was/is a)Bobby Baker playing Smalltown Bringdown last Spring on his tour and b) the new song of the day on thehip.com
Thats why you would do it with Gord S....
chancellor Wrote:great idea, but will never happen. Its been said earlier, there are many songs they will probably never do again, and they are all the songs people will pick,.

True, like I said, it probably won't go anywhere, but I think it will be fun. If enough are posted there could be a vote for the favourite, or not. Anyway, here's mine.

I know a whole lot of us on here are both Pearl Jam and Hip fans. I know the guys in the Hip (especially gord) do their best to avoid copying other band/cliches/ideas however, IMO Pearl Jam really connects with their fans by not only changing the setlist completely every show but by also digging deep for b-sides, rarities and older nearly forgotten songs. Not only does this entertain the fans but it refreshes the band as well! I hope the Hip shelve or rotate some of their over played concert staples ie...New O, Poets, ABAC, Blow, Bobcaygon.etc...
Yes, the guys might never play Another Midnight or Fiddlers Green but maybe in the place of those songs above we can get On the Verge, Emperor Penquin, Fight, Dark Canuck, Opiated, Luxury or 50 Mission Cap to name a few.
I think this band sells itself short live. I know you guys will beat me up for that statement but I think the Hip only scratch the surface of how good they could be live if only they would freshin up the setlists and be true to their own incredible catalog. :thumb:

See a show in Toronto during the hockey season -- you'll get your fair share of 50 MC. That said, I think we'd all agree that there are some songs we'd like to hear more than others. Then again, it'll have been almost two years since my last Hip show by the time June 24 rolls around; they could play Springtime twenty times in a row, and I still think I'd have a pretty good night.
Cheers,
Pat

I completely agree. Not only does it connect with the fans, but it motivates to go to multiple shows. For 12 years I have seen multiple hip shows on each tour, and for the most part couldn't help but feel a bit ripped off. I always kind of hoped the hip would be my grateful dead, following them around religously. After all these years I've come to realize I don't feel there is a point of seeing more than one show/tour.

I had a good chuckle at that one! You are so right!
So here's a setlist that will never, ever be played, but which I would love to see -- and not a single song appears on Yer Favourites. Not that I have anything against hearing Nautical or Blow or Meridian live, y'understand, but I wanted to see if their material was strong enough that I'd be happy to hear a set without any "favourites" on it. And it is.

i honestly don't know if the boys have the energy to play a set like that anymore...PROVE ME WRONG HIP! PROVE ME WRONG (at the Sudbury Arena)! LOL!
I honestly don't mean to sound like a dick (but I know it will come across that way) but are we really going to have another "ideal setlist" thread? I know we all get excited when there's a new concert and I will be aching to see what they play at my Fort York show, but there's one of these every time a new tour starts...and then we'll have a "crappy setlists" thread once the tour is underway.

You are free to
not read any thread you want. If you don't like the discussion, don't participate. Some people want to discuss this now and they have every right to. We can't (and shouldn't want to) stop them.
Any discussion on the hip or hip-related topics is great in my opinion. The time when we come to the 'base and there is nothing new to talk about...that's when we should be worried.
