I thought Pierre McGuire made a good point when he was speaking to BILL Daly  after the draft. Now that the NHL has its hard salary cap and linkage and all the rest, is there any reason why the NHL can't come back to Winnipeg and Quebec City? I'd be ecstatic if they brought those great franchises back, it will spark some old fantastic rivalries like MTL and QUE those games were always amazing and heated. And I think central Canada is being cheated, there's a void in central Canada and bringing Winnipeg back would fill it greatly. I think its a great idea, the teams can now be run with success and not have to worry about high salaries and trying to compete with the big boys. I think Winnipegers should start picketing the NHL headquarters. Bring back the Jets and Nords!! Who's with me!!
Picture this:
You're sitting in a packed full arena, with 15,000 excited fans all wearing white. A spotlight skims over the crowd, and the opening synth track to Van Halen - Jump, blares over the loudspeaker. "Ladies and gentlemen, You're Winnipeg Jets!" The crowd goes wild as the Jets blast out onto the ice. This is the season opener for the new Winnipeg Jets.
I don't think that they will expand the league but I don't see why they wouldn't move a team like Carolina or Nashville north. Another issue might be the arena. I know Winnipeg has a new one but whats the capacity? What about Quebec? Would they play in the old one?
seeing these teams back in the league would be great, for everyone from St.John's to Victoria
being a Habs fan, MTL-QUE would be awesome to see again
I saw one game when I was 10 years old back at the old Forum , Habs-Nordiques, awesome game, atmosphere(fights in the crowd)
People in Winnipeg are cheap. No one in the city will pay $60 to go see the Florida Panthers (or any other southern team) on say a Wednesday night in the middle of November, December, January or Febuary.
On the other hand, no one is going to games in half of the cities anyways, so why not move the team to a more traditional hockey market and get 11,000 or 12,000 people a game?
The other thing is our new arena. Althought it is a brand new state-of-the-art facility those who have been both here and to a building such as the ACC say it's apples and oranges. Our building is quite a bit smaller than the new rinks around North America (althought many of those are too big).

you may have a point there with the arena, I dont know what the capacity is (anyone?) also I cant speak for Winnipeger's, Ive never been there and I dont know anyone from there, but I do remember they had some awesome fans in Winnipeg, and I enjoyed watching the Jets play on tv, the white towels and screaming fans were awesome! Maybe attitudes toward NHL hockey in Manitoba have changed or become bitter I cant say, I guess you'd know better, but I have a feeling they would come back loud as ever. And lets say hypothetically, the Jets did come back, I doubt they would be put in the same division as the Florida Panthers and with the NHL today saying that one of the new changes to the scheduling was they wanted to promote geographical rivalries so teams in thier divisions play each other 8 times up from 5 or 6 I think, so I dont think that would be a problem for the fans there anyway, just my opinion.

What does John Daly know about hockey??

cratch:
BILL!!!!! my bad. Oops, I only associate the name daly with golf, it must of seeped into my subconsious. Thats a great pic of John though Id love to play a round with him.
as long as he doesn't shank one and hit the guy on the tightrope that walks everyday without a net

I'd love to see them both come back, but especially the Jets...I always had a soft spot for them, as they filled my 'second favorite team' role nicely...and I'll never forget the day that the Leafs shipped my childhood hero Ed Olczyk to winnipeg for Mark "I couldn't hit the back side of a barn and now I have euro-mullet" and Dave "Hey Wayne, shoot it off my heel" Ellett...Just a devastating day for the 5-year-old version of myself...tears were shed, hearts were broken.
To conclude, Come Back Jets, for the sake of a Jets-Coyotes matchup where craziness would ensue.
Euro mullet is right. How bout the Score for the lamest hockey analysts. Good ol' Mulletor and his sidekick loudjacket. Who the hell is that guy anyway?
The MTS Centre has a seating capacity of just over 15,000 and it would be unbelievable if we could one day fill it with a white-out. The Jets coming back would be too good to be true.
It would be sweet to have them back. I say whack all the teams except original six. Keep ottawa, and bring back the diques'. That would be interesting.
