A combination of some rave reviews here at Hipbase and a colleague of mine who loves them. Some 30 second iTunes previews later and I was sold.

I still haven't fully gotten into them. I keep meaning to pick some of thier stuff up but keep forgetting or getting something else instead.

Where should I get started with these guys? It's not looking so good for me getting to the folk fest on sunday. Though I'll be there for sure for Tweedy on Thursday.

You can't go wrong with "Left & Leaving".

Indeed. Just buy it - you'll thank us later. 8)
I got into them around this time last year, actually by DireWolf's suggesstion. They now remain in heavy rotation in my car, especially Reconstruction Site. Brilliant.

After all the hype here at hipbase, I ordered Reconstruction Site and was blown away... I added Fallow and Left & Leaving almost immediately after and include them on almost every mix I make. Actually, the first thing I ever heard was John K. Samson on CBC Radio 3 (a link from someone here at hipbase) and thought it was great.

Glad I could help!

I've been really getting into the weakerthans lately but they get absolutely no exposure down here (philly). its impossible to find their cds in any store and im sure theres an even smaller chance of me catching them live in this area. anyone know if theyve ever done a tour in the states or if they have plans to? what are their live shows like?
I've been listening to Reconstruction Site for the last couple days. Good stuff. I'll be picking up Left and Leaving soon hopefully, though the list of new music to buy is getting huge these days.

They've toured the States quite a bit actually. I'm sure they've been through Philly at least a couple of times. Just keep an eye on their website for tour dates:

One of my favourite bands. I saw them back in November about five days after The Hip show and they played a secret show in this tiny warehouse here in Winnipeg for about 100 people, very cool!
Hey gang! Here's a cool interview with the Weakerthans regarding their nomination for this year's Polaris Music Prize. Enjoy!

Jim Bryson and The Weakethans!!!
Happy New Year everyone! We rung in 2010 by recording with our great friend, Jim Bryson at a cabin on Falcon Lake, Manitoba. It was cold. The deer were too friendly. The nights were clear and full of blinking stars. And we recorded twelve songs in week with The Weakerthans serving as Jim Bryson's backing band.

Yet another album to look forward to this year! I love Bryson's solo work, and the addition of the Weakerthans should be a great fit. Can't wait to hear the results. And speaking of the Weakerthans, shouldn't they be working on a follow-up to Reunion Tour pretty soon? It's been almost 2 1/2 years and I haven't heard a peep from those guys in regards to a new album.

From my understanding, Jim Bryson was also providing backing on their new stuff.
