Either sign up at one of the many free sites ( www.blogger.com for example). Or register your own domain, get a web host and install your own blog software such as WordPress, b2evolution, Movable Type, Nucleus, or pMachine Free. (Which is what I did with www.hipfans.com )
Another popular blog-type site is www.livejournal.com .

Can someone explain to me the purpose/benefit of these blogs and btw could someone not have come up with a better word than "blog"?
Are they simply personal diaries? a porthole into the mind of the blogger?...if so, damn that's boring....
If you want to hear incessant, borderline psychotic ramblings spend some time working in a soup kitchen listening to the "clients" talk about how life has done them wrong...as heartbraking as some stories are, the majority are Kenny Banya "Gold" A-1 comic material.
Goulet!!!

My sister and I went on a month long vacation, and we each made a blog (web log = blog) to keep our friends and family back home updated. They worked out pretty well.
Now that I'm home, though, I don't update it at all.

The purpose, grasshoppa, is your purpose.
In other words, yer blog is about whatever you want it to be about.

Absolutely.
Just because many people have chosen to discuss politics in their blogs, it doesn't mean everyone has to... there's a whole big world out there to blog about, should the mood strike you.

Thanks all for the update...I've been hearing the word more and more and I never bothered to really figure out what it was...thanks for the enlightenment. I guess I'll take that last hesitant step into the 21st century now...someone please hold my hand.
