This may be one of the catchiest songs ever written. I always find myself singing the chorus at the top of my lungs trying to hit those high notes along with Gordie. I love it! Too bad it was dropped from the setlist on the last tour. Hopefully it'll make it's way back in there when they tour for the next album. Or better yet, maybe they can bring it out for Live 8!
and one of the funniest videos...
The Darkest One kicks major ass, I love when it comes up on my iPod while Im working, puts a spring in my step. One of my all-time Hip faves for sure. Cool video too! I sure hope they keep playing it live. :thumb: :thumb:
Sooooooo funny, I log on to hipbase and this was the first thread I saw and Darkest One just happen to come on my radio.
I always felt this should have been the first single off IVL, instead of Good Life. Or the second, instead of Silver Jet. By the time it was released, radio seemed to have lost interest in the album.

funny, I was thinking the same thing myself today. Strange thing is that Silver Jet barely made the album according to the band, and not that its a bad song, but how did they go from barely including it, to making a video for it and making it the second single? I think TDO would of been better to kick start that album and then Good Life. Even Use It up would of been a good radio song I think, I still wish they would of put Ultra Mundane on that album and left A Beautiful Thing or All Tore Up off [imo]
I dont think it was a case of it barely making the album. from what i remember, it was recorded late and added.
One of my all time favourite Hip songs. I think this and All Tore Up should have been the two singles/videos from IVL. I know I'm in the minority that likes All Tore Up but I think the studio version of it is awesome. I was disappointed with it live though especially with Gord playing acoustic.
Decent song, but a bit 'paint by numbers' for the Hip---it doesn't really add anything to where they've already been, IMHO. A really kick-ass hook instead of the slightly lame 'and yer the darkest one, mm-oh' part might help.
What's it about, anyway?

So true. Any video with Don Cherry, the Trailer Park Boys and the Hip in it is beyond great.

three words that best describe the song: "sexy as hell"
Uhm, I feel very ignorant but I have to ask; who ARE the Trailer Park Boys? I had never heard of them before I saw this video :? I enjoy the video anyway, but it would be fun to know...
