I guess from my perspective, the Hip are being very selfish, which is completely justifiable.
the Hip are being selfish?? What the f**k are you talking about? Get off the crack, seriously. They were asked to open for the Stones and they accepted because a) they are a rock 'n roll band and playing live is what they do. b) the Stones, whether YOU like them or not, are one of the most influential rock groups of all time and to this day can put on a fantastic live show.
Quit yer bitching, please.

I think you just proved my point. The Hip accepted because they wanted to open for the Stones, who, although they aren't my favourite band, are lauded by many people, including the Hip themselves. Obviously someone who is going to that show just to see the Hip is spending a lot for not a lot of Hip. So clearly the Hip aren't playing this show for Hip fans, but because they want to open for the Stones. Perhaps selfish is the wrong word, maybe a better phrasing would have been "the Hip are playing this show because they really wanna open for the Stones, not because they want to give their fans a great show"

Damn.

I'm not even sure how any other point could have been implied. Especially with the tag line about the typo.

I think it's cool for the Hip to open for the Stones... but like skippy said, I'm not willing to pay inflated Stones-level ticket prices to hear my favourite band play a short set, and then feel like I have to stick around for a band that I only kind of like some of their songs.

The Stones are definitely one of the biggest rock bands ever (not best, in my opinion, but biggest... big difference there), but I just don't care enough about them to want to see them live, even if the Hip are opening for them.

Although one potentially entertaining side show would be to see how some of the older Stones fans react to Gord's on-stage rants. Sure, they're used to seeing Mick prance about, but what might they think of Gord dancing like a lunatic? Hmmm...
