Anyone ever read "Ghost Rider"?
Unreal! Picked it up last night and read the first hundo. Talk about some serious shit to deal with. Daughter and wife of 20 yrs die within a six month period, and he's still functional. None of this pussy suicide shit. Now that guy is a fucking man.

Wasn't one of The Hip's songs "for Neil"
I thought I remember something about all of this.
There was the "I don't know Neil" from Inch an hour, and "This one's for Neil" is from WeAreTheNextUs.
Inch and Hour is too early to fit Neil's tragic year in 1997-98, but I suppose it could be a nod to him. His lyric style is much like gord. Meaningful, though provoking and full of literary references.
I've not really read through the poem. Will check it out today. Thanks greg.

I was actaully at the Test For Echo tour in 97 at the Amphitheatre on the civic holidaylong weekend. It was the day or so after where his daughter was killed in a car accident in Toronto. I remeber being in shock hearing about it.
This guy is the epitomy of a true musician and an amazing human being. On of the most interesting people and hands down the best drummer to ever pick up sticks.......
Not a lot of people out there realize that he is the primary lyricsit for Rush also. Geddy and Alex write the music, send it along to Neil and he writes before they even hit the studio........Rush, the three best musicians around and all in the same group...........amazing........

I saw rush last summer and I was shocked as to how tight they still are. It was intense. Perhaps the only band still showcasing a 20-30 minute drum solo. I'd like to see Mr Fay behind Neil's kit...there has to be twice as many things to hit.

Ah.... so many time have I compared rush to the police. Summers and Copeland rock, but sting is such a self-absorbed asshole, I can't get behind them. Although so lonely and regatta de blanc are two of my fav songs all time. Their box set is mui bueno!!!
As much as I love the hip, Jonny Faye doesn't even come close to Neil Peart. Have you ever heard his drum solo on "Closer to the Heart" from a show of hands!!! Holy shit!
I read Ghost Rider a couple of years back, really a bit of a downer at the beginning of the book, but lots of insight through his journies across the continent, he paints a clear picture with his words... he's one smart dude...
Rush is indeed the power trio to beat, their live shows are absolutely incredible... that entire 'Different Stages' CD will back me up, and watching Neil hammer away on 'Rush in Rio' frustrates the hell out of me... that guy is the super-hero of drummers; a fascinating lyrcist, author of three books now... he's recorded with The Rheostatics (others I'm sure) and has self-produced two 'Buddy Rich' tribute CD's, can't seem to find any of them though...

Rush has been one of my favourites for a long time. They are all terrific musicians, and for a long while they were well ahead of their time.
I've been meaning to find that book Neil wrote for a while, but now for sure I will go get it, sounds like a good read. I need to get me some summer reading, and while this may not be a "light" summer read, I think it will be very interesting indeed.

Neil also wrote travelin music that book cam out about a year ago. It goes through Neil's CD collection on a trip across country in his BMW roadster. Neil comments on two hip albums Fully Completly and Phanton Power. This was just as good as Ghost Rider.
