who thinks that the hips opener for their tour will make it big? i know i didnt really like their lyrics.
Funny you should say that--I loved their *music,* but like you I didn't care for their lyrics. However, I didn't notice myself disliking the ones on Joel's recent solo album, La-De-Da, so maybe they'll improve.

(The Halifax area band I'm suddenly high on is Matt Mays and El Torpedo. Saw them open for Blue Rodeo on Sunday night and *loved* them!)
who's Joe Plasik? Confusedcratch:
Joel Plaskett. (I didn't even notice the typo until now!)
I'm really diggin Joel, I actually think he has some great lyrics, I'm mean its nothing earth shattering but the stuff from Truthfully Truthfully is great, If you havent heard this CD, go get it, its a real rocker, nice ballad as well called the Day you walked away. all the songs have a certain quality to them, down at the Kyber is pretty delicious as well. Ya Joels going places and I think alot people know this, I'm gonna keep my eyeball on him....
Of course he'll make it big. He's an endless Emergency without end.

(Sorry, 1st thing I thought when I saw thread title.)
Big as in....triple platinum and the premiere guest at the MuchMusic Video awards or big as in respectable record sales, excellent music, maybe a couple of ECMAs and Juno or two, and a fairly devoted following?

My guess is he might be the latter, but the former doesn't even seem to be his goal.
I loved JPE when they opened for the Hip during the IBE tour and gained a higher appreciation for his music seeing him live. I hope he does well and I think we will. He reminds me of Tommy Petty in his sound and look.

Darren
He's been around a long time and I doubt his mission is to make it big judging by what I've read about him and the way he performs live. He loves his music and his Heritage..... I personally identify with his lyrics and enjoy his delivery.... the stripped down music is a nice change from the layered rock out there right now... I like the layers too... but this JP music is very smooth to listen to....
