My sister and I will be visiting Canada for 18 days in August. We're flying into Vancouver and taking it from there.
Do any of you know any nice places to stay?
Are there any sights we're not allowed to miss out on?
Any other tips or ideas you can give us?
We've been reading the tourist books but it never hurts to ask the people that know the area.

You've gotta check out Brandie's while in Vancouver...that's the house of ill repute where Big Ben sealed his fate with the J-Lo....and who knows, it might even be amateur night!!!...other than that Canada is pretty much all the same.

Alright...now that I'm done being a tit I can give you the real scoop. Vancouver is awesome!! Take a trek up to Whistler, it's a little pricey as it's pretty touristy but the scenery is incredible.
After that I'd say other places to check out in Canada would be Vanouver Island (seeing as you're right there) then there isn't really anything too exciting until you get into Toronto (sorry Prairie people)...actually I shouldn't say that, Banff is really nice, but it's along the same lines as Whistler is.
If you get a chance you should do some camping in the Muskokas (summer cottage hotspot) After that you can make your way up to Ottawa, if for no other reason to hang with the rest of us Hipbasers who live here...I'll buy you and your sister a bottle of Heineken at one of the cool pubs here in the Market.
After Ottawa I would head out to Montreal, for some shopping and culture then after that find your way out to the Gaspe region of Quebec for some more camping and backpacking and then finally hit up the East coast, my suggestion would be Halifax. Get your drinking hat on though...they know how to party out there!!!....18 days you should be able to have a nice little trip....enjoy!!

Kim, are you planning on seeing Canada, or just the part of Canada surrounding Vancouver? As well, where is your return flight leaving from?
The travel distances, travel times, and modes of transportation between destinations is nothing like it is in Europe. No high speed trains, VERY limited inter-city flight options (and they're all pretty expensive) and there are great expanses of open land between most cities... especially in the Prairies... so be sure to factor that in to your plans.

1. ukrainian easter egg(its freakin huge)
2.softball
3.tomahawk
4.kolbassa sausage(i think its even taller than the egg!!!)
5.ufo landing pad
6.turtle
7.bunnock(too bad you wont be here during macklins reknowned world bunnock championships

We fly into Vancouver on the 10th of August and we fly out from Vancouver on the 28th. As far as the 18 days in between are concerned, we haven't really planned anything yet, it's all up in the air. We figured we'd check out Vancouver city for a couple of days and then head out towards the surrounding area..realistically I don't think we'll get to see much more than that this time round.
We'll have to come back sometime to check out the east coast.....what a horrible thought
Since you're flying into Vancouver, I highly recommend taking the ferry over to Vancouver Island and driving up to Tofino. It's a gorgeous place. Lots of cool places to stop along the way as well.
Also, the 12-hour drive from Vancouver to Calgary along the Trans-Canada highway is one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever take. I've done that drive maybe 20 times over the years and I'll never get tired of it.

if you do the drive, make sure to stop off in salmon arm...it's beautiful here!! let me know if you do..i'll show ya around!!
A friend of mine lives in the Seattle area, which is only 3 hours from Vancouver and I've heard from him that the dirve along the coast is breathtaking :thumb:

Let's not forget the huge oil can (Rocanville) and the Ukranian lady(Canora).
One must also mention these superlatives: Totem Pole (Victoria), Hockey Stick (Duncan) and trees (anywhere)
