Front row Ottawa Nov 04 was the best I've done. Mrytle Beach was great last year, I sat at this table behind the pit, which was only about half full. You could actually walk right down to the front during the show, people were pretty spread out dancing and whatnot. Gotta love the US club shows :thumb:

Again, this is breaking the spirit of the "seats" question, but you did allow for good stories:

(Here in California the boys play clubs, so The one time I took a seat at a show, it was only because I had my kid brother in tow)

My very first show I walked right up to the front of the stage, I was two feet from Gordie... until I could no longer tolerate the shoving, and moved back to the side.

When I saw them in Santa Cruz I was right up in front between Gord S. & Rob. Ended up chewing some guy out between acts. Then apologized because I had been an asshole, and he had in no way earned it. I don't know who this cat was, but Rob kept handing him picks, and he turned & gave one to me.

Nice guy.

I don't know what got into me that I snapped at him the way I had between bands.

At that same show, during the Hip's set, Gordie suddenly stops, grabs the mike (he was stumming on that'n) and starts yelling, "Hey! Hey! Stop that!" I turn, and there's suddenly no one next to me, and not five feet away some bloodclot is pummelling some other dude. The bouncers summarily bounced him, and Gordie straightened up, saying, "Thank guys, get him out of here... That's uncool."

Front & center in the Mcinnis Room @ Dalhousie University, circa 1991. Positively orgasmic! They closed with a version of On The Verge that melted my face off - it was the closest thing to speed metal that I've ever seen the Hip do.

Wow, I cannot believe I forgot about this one.
At the Canada Day show in New York City -
about three songs in the bouncer let us back stage.
We were watching from back stage -
and then we saw some people up on the stage just out of view of the audience.
So my buddy went up and I followed.
I was on stage while The Hip were performing Tiger The Lion.
Pretty damn cool.

Check this out, we were fifteen feet left of the stage right up front and about three songs in my buddies girlfriend gets three out of the eleven of us wrist bands for backstage access. WOW.

What a cool perspective.
I see some people up on the stage just out of the audiences view and decide to go up.
Just as my foot hits the stage POW Tiger The Lion starts. Damn it was great being right up there and feeling the energy.
I taped the show but I was walking around so much backstage that the sound may be bad.
Anyway - the show ends and we are still backstage.
We wait around for a little while as all the members are right there drinking Heinekin?sp?
I have met everyone a couple of times before - but this time is the first I got to meet Johnny - and he is such a nice person (for lack of a better term) I got everyone to sign the tour posters they were selling and the setlist.
(The setlist thanx to Chris Brown - but thats a different story)
Gord Downie asked my name and then crossed out New York on the setlist and put Dana's Town. Then when he signed the poster and since it had a picture of the tree from the new album he put "Dana's tree - just add water"
All of the sudden my cell phone rings and it is my girlfriend back at the hotel - so what do I do? Of course - I hand Gordie the phone and I tell him it is my Girlfriend Melanie.
He then talks to her and says something like "Hi Melanie. It's Gord. Dana and I are here in New York City and we are fine. We will be having a good time tonite, tonite, tonite. We will be alright, alright, alright." He almost made it sound like a poem.

He's just checking out her ass isn't he. she is a good looking woman!~

Since I was right beside Rory, with Jamie on the other side I would have to say the best seats I've ever had to any venue was that Dec 4, 2004 show. Amazing show and memories. The great pictures I got and the DVD helps me relive it a couple times a month

Here Here Darren!!! Certainly one of the best shows ever. It was the only time I've ever been front row centre at a hip show!!!!!

I'm in the Silver Jet Video, so I saw them play live on set :mrgreen:

-It was basically the same verse take after take, but it counts!

-During the break for lunch I was walking around the building complex with a friend and ran into the 2 Gords who were just coming back from lunch and we talked for a bit, the 4 of us.

Gord D. said "We had chinese food, it was gross, I feel sick"

Best ever... just this past New Year's, front row, dead center.

But y'know... not that I'm complaining... despite our fabulous tickets (that we paid for)... but we still had a group of of people come down the row, and plant themselves dead in front of us, and start jumping around like there was no one else around. We complained to the bouncer, who sorta shrugged and said "they're with the band"...

I have a couple of bootlegs from '91 where they deliberately speed up the ending of On the Verge just like you describe, and you're right. It does sound kinda like speed-metal, but a little more on the punk-rock side.
