Been reading some of the recent threads in here...what songs to put on the compilation cd, worst songs to not put on compilation cd, gord is gay thread, live between us wall, and quite frankly, why do all the threads end up with a bunch of people attacking another person who voiced their opinion. Should NOIS be on the compilation cd? Yes, is it everyone's top ten favourite hip song, probably not, maybe some, so who cares? If someon voted on it, great, if not, great. Is Gord gay? most likely not, is Gord is gay, gay? probably not, maybe so, who the f*** cares? Can we make a promise here, that when the compilation cd is finally released, along with the dvd and new material, that a thread is not created as to what you think of the compilation cd, so we don't waste space here saying, "I like it", "I don't like it", "This song should have been on it", "This song shouldn't be on it". We all have our opinions, we all have our favourites, everyone will not agree with everyone else's, so let's be glad we have the Hip, their music, their legacy. Its great to be part of a community like this, but when a thread goes to 4,5,6 pages long, and all everyone does is bitch and start pissing matches with everyone else, what's the point. And yes I see the irony, that this can be considered a pissing match as well. But is this really the intent of this forum and community? Let's get back to basics here. Support the Hip, spread the music, talk about the band/music, where their playing, what their playing, how their playing....and when the hell are we getting that private gig for us? We talked about supporting one of their charities (ie, Camp Trilllium) to get them to play for us. Let's put the effort into something like that, rather than busting someone's nuts because they want Sherpa on the compilation cd.

so you 2 don't like debate? of course there will be a thread about it..i see nothing wrong with a thread started about it..however, i do see something wrong with it getting personal, and people attacking other people for opinions they don't agree with..but no thread? that's a bit much

Oh I like to debate, you know that. There's just a point where it just gets to be way too much like criticizing threads for being stupid. :roll:
i'm not going to get much more involved in this but....debates, we'll their fine, but how can you debate someone's opinion? there's no facts in that? I think Sherpa sucks, no I think its great. How do you debate that? Debates here, lately anyways, seem to evolve into personal attacks....will there be a debate/thread on the compilation cd? for sure there will be, it will probably be 15 pages long, by the time its done, you can say its a good cd, you can say its a bad cd, but leave the personal attacks out. i know, i know...if i don't like the topic, don't respond...ok, i won't say much more about it....bottom line is shouldn't we as a group/community be doing more for the group/ourselves than bitching about whether Sherpa ( and I don't mean to pick on this song), should be on the greatest hits cd or not

I don't think it's a matter of debating. I think it's a matter of the type of debating. Talking about facts, and if you think a song should be on a CD is one thing, but blasting someone because they don't like the same song as you is a bit much!
agreed..but i don't think we shouldn't have a thread about it...let the moderators decide if it's getting out of hand...

We should absolutely not have any threads. They only lead to discussion, and there's no place for that in the Tragically Hip Discussion forum.

On a serious note. We KNOW they, or at least GS and whomever ddd444 is, read the forum. I think the entire band probably reads and the management does to, we just don't know it. I just think maybe sometimes they read it and probably just shake their heads.
There are times I think we're more into the hip than the hip are!
