Ever since Gord rang off those lines at the Junos I've been interested in this band...
I had heard of them, but haven't heard anything from them (aside from the song 'Aside')...
Can anyone recommend any songs or albums to pick up to get me started on them?
Thanks,
Dante
The Weakerthans are my second favorite band behind the Hip, so it's easy for me to recommend everything they've done. But if you're looking for a good starting point you should definitely pick up their second album Left & Leaving. Reconstruction Site is also very good. And I've said it before, and I'll say it again. John K. Samson is one of the greatest lyricists/songwriters this country has ever produced. Period.

What he said. Left & Leaving, then Reconstuction Site and then Fallow. Absolutely amazing band.
I really like the weakerthans. One of my fav tunes is "A Plea From a Cat Named Virtue" also, "One Great City!" is good too. As well as "Pamphleteer". They have lots of great stuff. I am sure you won't ne dissapointed. :thumb:
I was wondering if i was the only person who became very interested in the band after Gord sang aside. I saw them opening on NYE in Hamilton, was blown away, but wasn't pushed to buy anything until the junos...Bought 'Left and Leaving' last Monday, and it's been in roatation ever since. What an album.
I first became aware of them back in 1999 when I saw them open for the Rheostatics at the U of C. I was there to see the Rheos, but the Weakerthans stole the show. Needless to say I've been hooked ever since. I became even more of a fan when John Samson listed Gord's Coke Machine Glow as part of his "essential summer reading list" on their website a couple years ago.
Saw them at NYE, and saw them at one of the Toronto shows, absolutely amazing band.. Bought all the albums, and that's all I've been listening to.. I love the Manifest/Hospital Vespers/Past Due....
