Well, President Bush just spoke, sounds like He wants to progress forward with action against Iraq. How does everyone feel about this? Do you feel it is a USA problem, or a problem for everyone in every country? How is the general feeling regarding this in Canada???

Well, I am against the war. At the sametime something has to be done. If Sodam is doing what they say he is doing then the UN must take action. Not just the US...
You are dead on Lance, its a tough situation but Saddam must go...
Saddam must go, but I think the US needs the backing of other countries.

I don't think many people on the planet are for war but after watching Powell's address to the UN with the US's evidence I am convinced beyond a doubt that Saddam is hiding something. I've always thought he was but the evidence justifies it for me. He needs to be removed.

Our terror alert level just rose to 'High' Which is the second highest. I am trying to not live in fear but at the same time this sucks!!! Does Canada have any kind of 'terror alert' system??

If the UN were truly going after countries that were in violation of international law and violating countless UN resolutions then they would be puruseing Isreal.
The Iraq situation is purely about the Amerikkka gaining accesss to the second biggest reserves of oil in the world, and W. wanting to do his Father good for finishing the job he did not. If Al Quaeda was anything to do with it the US would have gone after Saudi Arabia WHICH IS WHERE ALL THE 9/11 TERRORISTS ORIGINATED, but Saudi Arabia, although being a dictatorship at least as bad as Iraq with terrible human rights, has a nice deal with the US re: oil so nothing is done.

Bush talks of the atrocities Saddams commited on his own people ,yet neglects to mention the fact that 46,700 Iraqi children under the age of 5 had died from the combined effects of war and trade sanctions in the first seven months of 1991.[

Saddam's a bad man don't get me wrong , but this isn't about freeing Iraq from the big bad wolf . "Terror Alert High" maybe that's just a coincidence that that comes at the precise time Bush is looking for support , strike fear into people and your bound to get the ok from the people to bomb the hell out of Iraq. P.S. Where were the UN and the U.S. when 1,000,000+ people died of genocide in Rwanda , nobody was too concerned about human rights then. All I'm trying to say is look at the whole picture and motivations of the parties involved. Propaganda exists in many forms.
IF you are saying the war is all about Oil, how come French and Germans are not on board then? They are two countries that have no oil supplies whatsoever. In fact, they rely on the Middle East for Oil more than the US does... The US gets vast quantities from Venezula and Canada. In the end, if you argument hinges on the oil argument it fails. Its not totally about Oil its about stability. Also, you mention that Israel should be investigated for violations of internation law. That is an interesting point, I ask you this. In the Middle East what other country can you tell me has open and free democratic elections and freedom of the press? Only Israel has. So who then is in violation of the the basic principles of international law?

- France and Germany are (currently) opposed to the war because they presumably don't want to be part of an imperialist conflict which will massively disturb an already volatile Middle East.
- Israel is in violation of at least 68 UN resolutions, including 1404 (the most recent) which calls for the "immediate withdrawel of of Israeli troops from Palestinian cities, including Ramallah".
- Israel is no more of a democracy than apartheid-era South Africa was. Large sections of its Arab population are denied basic rights from everything from voter registration to building permits merely because of their ethnicity.
- It is true that many Arab countries are not democracies. However, as opposed to the US applying pressure to democratise, these corrupt regimes are frequently propped up with US money and support (as Saddam in Iraq was in the 1980s).
Most people in Europe are against the war. I agree that the oil reserves are a big part of the reason to start the war, also the fact that the US coulnd't capture Bin Laden. They couldn't get him, so now they want to get Saddam. Bush is stupid, ignorant and likes to start a war, which makes him altogether very dangerous. A lot of people in Europe think that Bush is a bigger threath to worldpeace then Saddam.
By the way, we pay over 2 euro's for a liter of gas overhere, so stop complaining
