"To show their admiration for Toronto-born Young, who lived in Winnipeg for five years during the mid-1960s, Juno organizers planned to send the rock icon a "love letter" during Sunday's televised award show, producers said Saturday after an all-night planning session.
"We have all pow-wowed together and I think we've come up with a beautiful love letter for Neil Young from all of us in Winnipeg and all of us at the show," said executive producer John Brunton. "It's very fitting."

The Hip are so well suited for "Downtown" it'd be great to see them bust that one out.

Good point. I'm curious to see what this "love letter pow wow" thing really consists of since it isn't a "tribute". You gotta love Neil. If he would have played at the Junos everyone would have expected a hit song but he was planning on playing new material. What a legend!!! He's done things his way his entire career and will continue to do so and I can't wait to hear some of his new stuff in the near future.
On an unrelated note, the Junos officially reached an all time low yesterday when they named Avril "Songwriter of the Year" over Ron Sexsmith. It totally baffles my mind how out of touch the voters are with reality.
I think an all time low would be if Simple Plan wins anything, who are these guys? And why are they on my tv and radio?

Didn't she also win "artist of the year" as well? And her competition in that category included Celine f**king Dion and Bryan Adams. Did those two even put anything out last year?? And did they really have a better year than say, oh I don't know....K-OS, Sarah Harmer, or Sam Roberts?? Seriously, how do they do the voting on this thing? Do they just throw the biggest most well-known names into a hat and do it that way?? It's absolutely disgusting.

Wow, after hearing that maybe I won't watch the Junos tonight. That said, redemption can occur if K-OS' Crabbucket beats out Patry For Two for single of the year. There was not a better song on Canadian radio last year than Crabbucket. Love it or hate it, the dictionary says "See Crabbucket" after the definition of the perfect single.

I'm guessing you meant "Artist of the Year", considering Songwriter of the Year was just announced a few minutes ago and given to Ron Sexsmith.
I don't know how Avril could win an Artist of the Year, so I agree with you there, but I for one at least feel better that Ron Sexsmith did win Songwriter of the Year... I think that one means a little bit more.

Yeah, sorry. I could have sworn I read that the Songwriter award was given out Saturday but I must have been mistaken. It's great that Ron won the award because IMO he was the most deserving.
