Sanjay Gupta: Well, medically speaking, Wolf, his condition is very grave. Very grave indeed. We know that his blood pressure has dropped and that his breathing is laboured. And he is said to be in septic shock. So medically speaking, his condition is very grave, and he will probably die soon.

Yeah I noticed that too. I was watching some of CNN today and felt like their coverage of the Pope is like a "play-by-play." Especially with the changing headings at the bottom of the screen like 'Pope's breathing becoming more shallow' or 'circulatory and kidney functions deteriorating.' Seems disrespectful to me. I am surprised we haven't heard of his last bowel movement yet... or maybe that will be breaking news sometime tonight. It's like they're all their watching and waiting for him to die. Very unsettling.

Just one of the many reasons newspaper will never die. The 24 hour news cycle doesn't provide 24 hours worth of material.

At first, you were stuck rehashing what you said 30 minutes ago. Nowadays, in the era of "continuing coverage of this live event!" you have no choice but to repeat what you said 30 seconds ago.

Yup. That about sums it up.

You know those S.O.B.s already have a memorial sequence, theme song and series of graphics made up for when the Pope does pass on. A pack of dogs waiting for a chunk of meat to fall to them is what comes to mind with the unsavoury lot at CNN.

Today The Globe and Mail put in a 13 page obituary on the Pope and he isn't even dead. All about selling the newspapers and not about the person. Sad, and truly pathetic.

This brings to mind Mark Twain's practical joke of passing around a rumor of his demise and having the New York Times jump on it and print his obituary..some things never seem to change :roll:
