I think people have tried with no success. Just ask Pearl Jam. They tried with zero success.

I know when we saw the hip in Clifton Park, I'm sure some of you remember that we drove and hour and a half to Clifton Park to buy the tickets because it would be cheaper than Ticketbastard

Why do they charge so much for these tickets? U2? Elton John? Andrea Boccelli? Rolling Stones?
BECAUSE THEY CAN... and they'd sell out or come damn close every night. It's too bad most of the REAL fans can't afford to go see their favorite performer. Concert promoters/record companies know that they can charge outrageous amounts because the rich suburbinite soccermoms & kids will forkover those beans and dress up in their bermuda shorts and polo shirts with the collar up, drive their luxury SUV's to the arena all for the chance to see a band that someone told them were "kinda cool."
"Hey - I just paid $275 to see U2... I heard they're a good band.... Aren't I trendy?"
Now I know a lot of people who really love a band or performer and will save up for months anticipating a concert ticket that will cost in the hundreds of dollars. It's too bad because those are the fans who deserve to go to a concert - they'd appreciate it more.

I know that the most of the major events in Ottawa don't even deal with Ticketmaster anymore. Any event through the Corel Centre (most concerts, and Sens tickets, soon hopefully), as well as the Renegades and local festivals in the city are done with <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.capitaltickets.com">www.capitaltickets.com</a><!-- w --> , which has an interesting picture of Gord Downie on the main page, and while the service charges aren't as high (they're still highish), the entire system relapsed when U2 tickets went on sale. I wonder if Ticketmaster is a publicly traded company, I can't see them ever losing a dime; I think investing in a Canada/US monopoly might have some decent payoffs...
