No word yet on the cause of death but most likely had something to do with his drug problems.

Oh my God. That's really, really awful. He's one of my favorites. I never had the chance to catch him live, but he's brilliant. Where did you read/see/hear about this?

They were talking about it on Howard Stern all morning.

I doubt it but that would be one hell of a joke.

hmmm now that I think about it this could very well be an early april fools joke from the Stern show.

The Letterman news group took it upon themselves to investigate and found only one website confirming the story, that being a Stern fansite.

They also document how rumours of Mitch's demise, or his losing a leg in a car accident have been rampant on the internet for years.

It's still very much unconfirmed, and I sure hope it's a false alarm.

In the mean time, my favourite Mitch bit:
