dire wolf - greatful dead
wild mountain honey - steve miller band
fire in the hole - steely dan
are there any others?
aside from the guitar solo in dire wolf sounding kinda dead inspired i don't know of any meaningful connections between any of the above mentioned songs and the hip songs of the same names... anyone?
"Fire In The Hole" was originally a 1950's labour
ballad and "Thugs" comes
close.
I think you've nailed all the titles, and besides "I'm a werewolf baby" liberally borrowing from Warren Zevon, I think those are most of the "homage" tracks.

cool,
i've heard gord singing that before fire... didn't know what it was.
Not a lifted title, but Opiated makes a direct reference to the Grateful Dead:
He bought two fifths of lead free gasoline
said the bottle is dusty but my engine is clean
The Dead's Brown Eyed Women:
Brown eyed women and red grenadine
the bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean

I know this is silly but I've been wanting to post about this so here's my chance.
My boyfriend bought a CD of Sammy Davis JR because he loves the song Candy Man. Leave it to me to find a parallel between the hip and SDJ
The Candy man -
Talk about your childhood wishes
You can even eat the dishes
Summer is Killing US -
And does your family know your wishes
'cause this chorus will do you like the dishes
Yeah, no parallel, unless maybe Gord is a big Willy Wonka fan or something. I just think that Wishes and dishes rhyme, but I find it rather humorous.

Leave -- REM song of the same name on New Adventures
