Hey all, just read in the Hamilton Spec. today, that there will be no live coverage of the "red carpet" b.s. for the Junos this year, and the actual telecast won't even be "live to air" because CTV is going to show a 90 minute telecast of Desperate Housewives. So no catching the Hip as they stroll up the red carpet and have that annoying Ben Mulrooney ask them stupid questions....Not even a live telecast, what a joke..

A one-hour, red carpet, pre-show extravaganza featuring the biggest names in the Canadian music industry. Hosted by etalk Daily's Ben Mulroney and Tanya Kim, CTV At The JUNOS will showcase Canada's musical glitterati as they arrive in front of thousands of cheering fans and an international media contingent.
The Juno's were one of the top rated Canadian TV programs of last year, so I can't imagine CTV missing out on that kind of exposure.
I also heard about this on the radio here in Winnipeg. CTV will be airing Desperate Housewives first but they said some red carpet footage would be squeezed in from time to time during the show. Not sure how they will accomplish this but whatever.

From Bill Brioux of the Toronto Sun's column last week...
DESPERATE PLOY: In the most naked ratings grab since that Oscar streaker, CTV plans to "supersize" their Juno Award red carpet coverage by somehow combining it with an episode of Desperate Housewives.
How will this work? Tune in to CTV April 3 at 7 p.m. and there (two hours earlier than on ABC) are the girls of Wisteria Lane. Before the commercial break, cut to Ben Mulroney in Winnipeg, talking to Trooper. A few commercials (and Instant Star plugs) later and back to Terri Hatcher chatting up some hunky carpenter. Five minutes in, cut to Tanya Kim asking Randy Bachman who he is wearing.
This will go on for 90 minutes. Look for CTV to start editing scenes from Degrassi into CSI next.
The ploy will allow CTV to claim 2.5 million viewers for their Juno red carpet coverage plus give The Junos a boost in an off music year. Brilliant, unless you just want to watch Desperate Housewives.
Well, I was right in that they wouldn't want to miss out on the exposure, but this sounds just ludicrous.
Sometimes the Juno's just can't seem to get it right.
A Canadian awards show should never, never be preempted by an American television show.
Why must Canadian entertainment always play second fiddle to American entertainment?!?!
Stand up Canada, this is OUR music awards show!!!
I like Desperate Housewives....now before you curse me, allow me to explain. I actually hate the show, but the girlfriend loves it...so when I let her watch the show I get to add 10 minutes to the "Fun" fund. Now you tell me that there is going to be a 90 minute episode...if my Grade 12 math is correct it looks like I'll be racking up another 15 minutes come next Sunday AND I get to avoid excessive Ben Mulroney exposure...thats Win-Win where I come from.
Goulet!!!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
THE JUNOS ARE APRIL 3rd!?!?!?!?!
I'M GOING TO SEE ION DISSONANCE AND DESPISED ICON THAT NIGHT!

I'm going to miss it because myself and a few of my more cultured acquaintances, will be sitting down with bre and the finest Merlot to partake in that splendid spectacle of stage and small tights: WrestleMania.
For the first 12 years of my cultural life, Hulk Hogan was king, only to be replaced by The Hip over the past 12. But nostalgia for the big guy wins out on this night I guess.

yeah, i wanted to see Wrestlemania too lol, Piper's Pit with Stone Cold, Cena vs. Bradshaw, HHH vs. Batista, 6-man ladder match, Undertaker vs. Orton, Big Show vs. that Sumo Champion, Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels, i was actually thinking of going to Silvercity to see it this year, but i gotta check out Ion Dissonance (always kiler live) and find out for myself just how intense Despised Icon are live.
"Lead-in Housewives will boost The Junos beyond last year's total (1.5 million), despite a lacklustre talent lineup. (Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette and Avril Lavigne are all taking the year off. Even presenter Dan Aykroyd ditched this week.) Then there's that horrible Party Of Two song."
Ok, he got it right about the Party song but......IS HE JOKING about a LACKLUSTRE TALENT LINEUP???? So Shania and Avril aren't going to be there eh?? Sorry, I must have made a mistake because I assume he is implying that Avril and Shania have talent. How can anyone say the Junos are lacking talent when NEIL F**KING YOUNG IS THERE!!!! If nobody else performed, Neil would be enough to give the entire show credibility. Plus "Canada's Band" is being honoured for the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. I'd say this year's Junos are loaded with talent. The Hip and Neil probably have more talent than all the other nominees combined!!!! I understand what the writer is saying about Avril and Shania since they are big attractions but he shouldn't use the word "talent". He could say "lacklustre pop queens who sell a zillion records but aren't that good" and then he would be honest.
their music sux. award shows suck worse.
