skippy the wonder dog Wrote:CMG was published by Vintage, and this wouldn't be their kind of book.

I'm surprised, though, that publishers wouldn't jump at the idea of a book on the Hip. I would expect it to sell well, which is all publishers really care about in the end.

That's actually a big sticking point. Sadly, the mainstream world doesn't seem to be as crazy for the Hip as we are. One agent, in Montreal, suggested I include other "more well known" bands.

I'm kinda hoping the upcoming Juno buzz will coincide with somebody reading the packages I've sent. It'd be nice to be offered a line to sign, so I could begin interviewing people and not have to worry about the costs involved.
Hmmm... maybe my perceptions are coloured by fandom. But CMG sold 10,000 copies in no time flat. I wonder if this has more to do with perceptions of what's hip rather than the reality of what the Hip can pull in?

Maybe 1995 was the year for this book.

Or maybe 2020, when their hugely successful comeback album makes them critical darlings.

What about petitioning Hip management for an acoustic-only Phantom Power that is sold at Starbucks with Stephen's book?
Just because it's mildly Hip-related and about writing:

My mystery writing list has several people, including me, who've completed manuscripts (mine, I should note, has been completed six times, so believe me at your risk.) Anyway a few of us are now muttering in terror about the idea of writing the synopsis we'll need to send to agents or small presses when we query them about our books. It's gotten to the pint where we're all afraid of the word "synopsis."

So, in an attempt to come up with a less scary word, I've halfway convinced some of the group to just call the synopsis "Gord." As in, "I'll be working on Gord all this weekend."

Well, I thought it was mildly funny. Wink

(And yes, my own manuscript actually has Hip content. In fact, the detective eventually solves the crime after her brother's Road Apples t-shirt sparks a chain of reasoning. I'm thinking I ought to query only Canadian publishers.)

I'm writing a romantic thriller. I'm more of a thriller writer but it needed a romance to get off the ground. I have a BAND from CANADA in my book and there are loads of Hip references in it and well, at least one of the characters was inspired by GD.

hmmmm...don't get me started :thumb:
Probably the BEST post I have ever seen on this site!!

Watch is one of the best books I've ever read. To be cliche, it does say so much about living with the worries of this post-modern world.

Thank you Hugh and Stephen (for the post).

Hugh, the world was a better place for having you in it! Salute (as I drink another heineken).
