There's a guy in town, does the Triple X hypnotist thing, he's a part of some show the Young Liberals are putting on as part of their convention this weekend. Poster claims he can make anybody do anything.
Has anybody ever seen one of these guys? Anybody ever been under?
I'm thinking you have to want to be hypnotised or it won't work, anybody had any experiences to the contrary?
I'm a skeptic.
A CIA interrogation manual from the 60s observes that if you convince someone that they are hypnotized, they become suggestible. In their minds, the suggestion that they have been hypnotized relieves them of responsibility for their actions. So they drop their resistance or inhibitions.
So in shows like this, are people hypnotized, or are they simply playing along because they get the opportunity to be the centre of attention without having to have any responsibility for what happens?
Skeptic or not, if it's Tony Lee go and see the show. It is non-stop laughs. He performed at my university every year I was there, and I never missed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it everytime.

I tend to lean this way, Will Lee (no relationto tony) even tells his audience beforehand: "You must be willing to believe. If you come up here thinking "You can't hypnotize me..."you're right."
I have seen Tony Lee's show, our fellow Hipbaser DW74 got to hang out with the guy one day IIRC. And yeah, his show is great.
I'm a skeptic, I think it's the fact they BELIEVE they are under. I don't think I could be hypnotized. I'd like to try it once to see if it really does work.
I've seen a few hypnotists at fairs and they're pretty entertaining. I'd go see one!
I was selected from the audience to participate in one of these hypnotist shows while I was a freshman in college - I was not 'skeptical' so to speak, but I was one of about 33% who were sent from the stage back into the audience because I was unable to be put under.
However, as a result of that show, I do believe that people can be deeply hypnotized , because a couple of friends were also selected to participate and were hypnotized, and that hypnotist made absolute *fools* of them. No one in their right mind would've behaved on stage as he was directing them to. It was funny as hell, but I was embarrassed for them and was sooooooo glad I was unable to be put under.
Afterwards, my friends reported that they had absolutely NO recollection of the events which had transpired while they were under, and upon sensing the unbridled amusement from the crowd after 'waking up', they were dying to know everything they did while hypnotized.
When we told them they were all furious (and rightfully so).
I failed to mention that in first year university, I was one of the "lucky" ones who was hypnotized by Tony Lee. My friends are still laughing about it...

Chris, what did he make you do?? C'mon, you can tell us!!!!
A few years ago I learned how to become a hypnotist. I read a few books about it and tried it successfully on some friends (although I could never do any of the really crazy things that the pros do). It's definatly possible, but there's a big difference between what's actually going on and what the audience sees and thinks.
In high school, my buddy hypnotized myself and another friend after we didn't believe that he could do it.
It was kinda weird actually. Like Part of my brain knew what was going on, but was powerless to do anything about it.
We went through my "past lives". I doubt that they were real, but whatever my brain came up with, sure felt real.
It sort of felt like a really deep sleep........ very relaxing.
So, I beleive you can be hypnotized, if you're open to the idea.
Hypontism is nothing more then suggestive behaviour...The hypnotist suggests an action and you do it, not cause youre unconciece but becasue you want to do what the guy is saying.
I WAS BROUGHT ON STAGE ONCE BY A HYPNOTIST AND I KNEW EVERYTHING THAT HE WAS ASKING ME TO DO AND I WENT ALONG WITH IT...WHY YOU MIGHT ASK??
well for 1 I was on stage and felt if I just stood up and left it would look bad and it was kind of fun being on stage
Everytime i was asked to do something i really had to think of what i wanted to do like sing a song or what not.
SO IN CONCLUSION IF YOU ARE A PERSON WHO IS PRETTY EASY GOING AND ISNT WORRIED ABOUT BEING EMBARRESSED AND YOU ARE OPEN TO THE IDEA OF SUGGESTION YOU TOO CAN BE QUOTE UNQUOTE HYPNOTISED.
