Dave Matthews Band are currently putting the final touches on their new CD and are personally loving the work they’ve done with hip-hop producer Mark Betson.

Betson, best known for his work with Seal, Beyonce, Eminem and 50 Cent, spent a lot of time in the DMB studio working with the band on a one-on-one basis to craft the songs for the record.

RollingStone.com reports Matthews and company decided to go all out and entirely redo their studio from top to bottom for their sixth album. To get the creative juices flowing, individual members worked solo with Betson so each of them could come up with their own songs. That means there's a chance the record might not sound the same as everything else DMB have released.

The new CD, due out in May, is still untitled, but we're sure they'll have some sort of creative title for it —their studio is always stocked with a pitcher of magic mushroom tea, or as it's known to stoner rockers, "Creativity in a pitcher."

DMB have recorded 25 songs for this album and the tracks include funk songs and sweet violin ballads. Matthews says the record is about "love, life, God, death and sex." That pretty much covers it all.

DMB are currently planning a March tour in Australia. No North American tours have been announced, but with a new record and summer (the season) still set to happen, that's likely to change
:nospam :nooooo

I guess this finally proves how much they suck. Looks like they just aren't talented and creative naturally.
Man..I guess I'll have to be the first to disagree with you. I see the DMB take a lot of heat from a lot of people on this forum, and I have to say I really enjoy a lot of their music. I especially like playing it on the guitar, Dave really is a pretty good guitar player, and a strong song writer.

And as far as the "creativity in a jug" shot at the DMB, let's not be naive here and go through life thinking Gord and the rest of our beloved hip haven't treated their minds to a little psychotropic cocktail or two in their hayday.....3 words.... Day for Night.

Goulet!!!

DMB is one of the best things to happen to music in the last 10-15 years. The majority of the people who hate them have never really given them a chance. Try listening to Before These Crowded Streets and tell me its not some of the best shit goin.
i didnt say the hip didnt do anything back in their hayday. But im sure they didnt come say the title of our next album will decided over a nice pitcher of magic mushroom tea

Yeah and DMB didn't say that either. Read the article again.

And are we really this uptight now that we're ridiculing rock musicians for doing some relatively mild drugs? Amazing. And I thought you guys were more liberal about this kind of thing up there. Confusedcratch:
The hip should record like that, maybe they will stop rehashing the same old stuff over and over again. :thumb:

Blasphemy
Chancellor, why the hate-on for Dave Mathews? He's a musician, ya don't have to like him, but this seems a little much. Is there some scarring DMB story in your past?

As for the Hip doing "the same old thing," I don't see how anyone could find even the slightest justification for that argument. As somebody who loves the band, loves most of their different sounds over the years, but still doesn't enjoy "Heaven" or "Summer," I can't say they've ever shrugged experimentation or evolution.

Yeah I just like to get Hip fans riled up....maybe they sound the same 'cause Gord can't sing
Here, this'll cheer you guys up:

jen Wrote:Besides, who really gives a rats ass who takes drugs and who doesn't, in the end it is the quality of music produced. (whether you like them or not) Name one classic rock album that didn't have some sort of drug influence. Rather it be by the singer, the drummer, whomever.

It is all a matter of opinion, you two hate them.....WE KNOW....just move on.

A-freaking-men.

If it were not for the ability of certain drugs to get the creative juices flowing, the entire Beatles catalogue from Revolver forward might have sounded completely different. Hell, the same goes for almost every great rock act as well - Zeppelin, the Stones, the Who, the Doors.....PINK FLOYD....I could go on and on and on and on and on.

And if all that music could have been so different [or completely non-existent , for that matter] without such 'influences', our beloved HIP may never even have EXISTED themselves. Methinks that these DMB critics are incredibly naive to the 'exploratory' nature of most artists and musicians.

I respect DMB, but would not consider myself much of a 'fan'. That said, Chancellor and Beanmedic, you criticism is absolutely ridiculous.

Confusedcratch:
Check out DMB live in Central Park, Eisily on of the best concert DVD's made. YOu can't tell me theya re hacks aafter watching that. I can only hope the Hip's DVD is half that good.
A wise man once told me:

"Never argue with an idiot. Someone watching, may not be able to tell the difference."
