I was listening to the live London show on the weekend. During Fully, Gord does one of this famous band "introductions" during one of the song's pauses. This time it was "Mr. Johnny Faye" before kicking back into the song. That got me thinking. What do we really know about this guy? Would anyone disagree that we hear the least about this member of the band? Some people have told me that he is the hardest of the guys to get to (i.e. autographs, chats after the show, etc.) Someone else also told me he was a bit of a germ freak. Not really one to want to shake hands or give out big hugs to the ladies. Just wondering if anyone had any stories about Mr. Faye. Also, can anyone think of one particular tune that really showcases this drummer's talents?
Discuss....
I can only give my personal experiences as proof, but Johnny does seem to be the least approachable guy in the group... not a jerk by any means, but most aware that he's a rock star.
His personal dislike of shaking hands is apparently because 1) He's got a germ phobia, and 2) He wants to protect the paws.
With that said, listen to the end of "On The Verge" from Roxy and Elsewhere and tell me he's not among the best damn drummers on earth.
He's not one of the best damn drummers on earth.... I said it... actually that was pretty easy.
I know a few things about Mr Fay.
I met him once this past october, he seemed kinda fake and not as nice as the other guys. The night I met him he was nice to me and to the other fans.
I stood next to the man for a long time while I was waiting for my boyfriend to get the camera to work, we just stood there with our arms around each other and I said "go on to the other fans, we'll get the camera working" and he was like "no, no, I'll wait".
He likes to collect antiques and the console on the cover of Phantom Power is his. It's something that was used to test airplane parts.
He lived in NYC for a while
He loves to cook
I know he's a skier because he is supposed to be in my neck of the woods to ski this winter, at least that is what he said when I met him.
He got in to Berklee school of Music
He's the youngest of the group
the rest of this is second hand from other hipbasers so take it as you will...
He's been known to hit on two women at once.
He's been known to ignore every woman in the place when there's a "model beautiful" woman in the place.
He won't shake hands because he's protecting his hands, he said they were bleeding when I met him.
I know of someone on the hipbase...I believe it was Kari, sent two of her hottie friends to Darrien to ask him if he was engaged, because that was the rumor and he said "I'm on the road too much to be married". However, other fans met him after that, like September, and he had a girlfriend and he flew to TO between shows just to be with her.
Even if he's a hottie, he seems to be the least liked of the group and basically nortorious for being the whore of the group.
However, if we all looked in our past and really scrutinized every skeleton we have, we probably wouldn't come out smelling too well either. I know if my book is published I have a few people who could very well say "I knew her when" and come off sounding like an article for the enquirer.
He got into Berklee??? Interesting, I didn't know that. When did he live in NYC?? He's a good fit for the band. He is a good, maybe not great, drummer who does a workmanlike job behind the skins. He bangs the skins hard live!!
I was at a Hip show in Hamilton a few years back, and some people infront of us said they were friends of his, and had backstage passes....well we didnt beleive them, even when they said here we have some extras....anyway, they were friends of his, they were great people to rock with at the concert, and Johnny seemed pretty nice (I met all of the Hip that night except Gord S...his kids were sick or something?)
ANyway, i sat at a table with Mr.Faye for a while, not really talking but listening to him talk....he seemed really nice, they all were great. He signed my shirt for me, but his hands were all "chapped" so we didnt shake either.
thats my story....

Just a wee brutal aren't we? He's.... 'Fake', 'germ freak', 'aware hes a rockstar', and 'a whore'.
Maybe he's just a private guy who like sex with multiple women? Iam one of those guys also..most guys are (yep trudat!)
He seems more reserved yes, but having met'em a few times, he seems at worst a richkid who works in one of the best/hardworking bands canada has ever produced.

Sorry this probably isnt the way to join a forum but who fuckin cares really. Glad to be among other hip fans here, i think!

Hey, we're all entitled to our opinions and observations. If you have a problem with outspoken people, you might not enjoy this forum.

Yes, he got into Berklee and I don't know when he lived in NYC, would have been pre phantom power because that is where he bought the console, I read that in an interview or on some video I have or something on my HD. There's a great article about the entire band that is from a Kingston magazine that Kari sent me to me. It's a great read!
If anyone is interested in a copy of the article, pm me and we can make arrangements.

Cool. Johnny doesn't strike me as a guy who would be a "school" kind of guy. I can't picture him getting into debates about the technicalities of notes and music in general. How long did he go to Berklee?? Not very long I guess.

I believe it was back in the 80's when the band was first starting out. I don't think we went to school there. In the article it said "his mother made sure he got into Berklee"
I enjoy outspoken individuals always have. However, conjecture and character assassination based on halftruths has never been a strong suit for me i guess.
Spose ive stumbled onto what the assholes at work, the ones who spread rumours and gossip to create a toxic work environment and avoid doing their jobs, do at home in the evening.
haha im kidding most likely, just an observation...sorry opinion, based on nothing really...just your pious asshole ways...
