actually not that bad of a show...the across the universe featuring bono, steven tyler, velvet revolver norah jones, brian wilson was sort of interesting..green day kicked ass, and the janis joplin tribute with melissa etheredge and joss stone(what a great young(and very attractive/sexy) talent) was unreal.

I caught that and OMG it KICKED ASS!
AHHH Joss Stone! That's who that was! She was gorgeous and was a real wonderful performer!
Melissa just looked GREAT for a woman who has breast cancer and lost all of her hair she just knocked it out of the park vocally too.
I wish I could have seen the Ray Charles tribute but I was traveling home at the time and didn't set the VCR.
best performance was Kayne West (that i saw at least, i missed Green Day, i was mostly watching the Pro Bowl, Raptors, and AHL Skills Competition), those Hispanic dudes were ok, Melissa Ethridge's performance was good, but she looks like Mike from REM now , and U2's sucked, they shoulda played Vertigo or All Because Of You. For once i think the Junos are actually going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaay better this year.

Usually the Grammys are one of the most disgusting and overblown things on TV, but this year it seems like they finally made an effort to put on a decent show featuring performers who actually have some talent. Green Day was awesome, as was U2. Bono's voice was absolutely pitch perfect. Say what you want about the guy's ego, but as a singer he's definitely one of the best in the biz. And who would've thought you'd ever see Stevie Wonder backed up by Slash and the Velvet Revolver dudes. That was a truly bizarre moment in award show history. And I agree, the Melissa Etheridge/Joss Stone thing was pretty cool.
However, that f**king song by the Black Eyed Peas is one of the most annoying things to hit the airwaves in years. Just thinking about it makes me shudder. And don't even get me started on how much I hate Maroon 5.

What was that thing with Kayne West? Was it a tribute to african American music (*cringe* I hate using PC terms)
What I saw of it...because I was flipping back and forth from Desperate Housewives and the Grammys...was very interesting and even moving at times.
OH and BTW, the AHL is in my neck of the woods. They're all only 45 minutes from me

This may be an unpopular perception but while there were some excellent performances last night, the mega-star collective singing "Across the Universe" wasn't one of them. It was the most pathetically boring uninspiring performance of the entire program. Sure, proceeds of the download is allegedly going to tsunami reief so it was for a good cause but with all that talent on one stage, the chance to have something great, and capture the moment, they totally blew it!
Best of show goes to all the ladies and the Lynyrd Skynyrd / Dickie Betts / Elvin Bishop medley featuring Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.
It was a good show, Los Lonely Boys were tight, as well as U2, I saw half of Green Day and it was pretty darn good they were really tight, I may have to give that CD a chance after that. Etheridge and Joss Stone were great. I missed a lot because my wife wanted to watch Dedperate Housewives and Boston Legal.
I have to follow up with a snippet from a
Detroit News article about the Grammy broadcast. Adam Graham is a Detroit News staff writer not an AP contributor.
Adam Graham of the Detroit News Wrote:...Yes, it's still called the Grammy Awards, but the awards took a backseat to the bombast of the telecast, which included a jaw-dropping 24 live performances.
The performances were a mixed bag and didn't include any barnburners like Prince's showstopper last year, though Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge's electrifying tribute to Janis Joplin came close.
The show clearly stressed quantity over quality, as the free-wheeling tribute to southern rock seemed like nothing more than an excuse to get country stars Gretchen Wilson, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban all on stage together at the same time.
The bloated, off-key rendition of "Across the Universe" that featured Norah Jones, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Billie Joe Armstrong, Tim McGraw and Steven Tyler -- all backed by walking rock punchlines Velvet Revolver, no less -- resembled a "Saturday Night Live" sketch gone terribly awry, and represented over-the-top Grammy overkill at its worst.
And if Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's melodramatic, overwrought duet or U2's labored performance of the downtempo "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" made you feel like channel surfing, the opening medley of Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani and Eve, Los Lonely Boys, Maroon 5 and Franz Ferdinand was so-thrown together it felt like the show's producers were channel surfing for you.
I'm still somewhat aghast at the whole broadcast so I felt compelled to share.
I only caught bits of the show, but I was a little disgusted by the beginning of the show. I can't believe they played "Let's get it started" a song that was revamped from "Lets get retarded" simply for an NBA promotion. A group that surrenders their own "artistic work" to suit an advertising campaign shows little integrity. And for that song to be played live at the Grammys was ridiculous.
I am sure the NBA loved it though!

I agree. And for the record, I never said the "Across the Universe" performance was good. I just said it was bizarre.
I think the Black Eyed Peas are ridiculously overrated and have a serious shortage of musical talent. I also think U2 could win a grammy for singing the alphabet song. I'm not even sure if people listen to their music. They're good and all but to win for "Vertigo"???????????/ C'mon.
I didn't see the show so I can't comment on the other performances. I did catch the Joplin tribute however and I thought the ladies did a great job.
Another thing. I just read an article on canoe.ca about Kanye West. It's all subjective, but to me the guy is a hack. His music doesn't inspire me at all and to hear him complain about not winning every award is laughable. Sounds like he is in it for the awards, which shouldn't mean anything if you ask me. Kanye West will be forgotten in two years anyway, so at least that's a good thing.
Is anyone else growing incredibly tired of Gwen Stefani or is that just me?
it's just you old man, she's fucking smokin' hot, when she comes on the tube, i put it on mute and play something good off my comp and all is well. i don't even mind her "whatcha waiting for" song, even if it is disposable dance music, it's catchy as hell, and it's got a really cool beat.
as for Kanye, he's all sorts of talented, he's a pretty tight MC, AN AMAZING PRODUCER, and from what i saw at the grammys one helluva live performer, he rocked the house, best performance i saw that night (i missed Green Day).
