It's in the works...you heard it here first.

When i asked my source about an accompanying dvd, he said he hadn't heard.

This is all the info i have, but it is from a very reliable source.

ETA? unknown at this point
Content? 2 new songs (perhaps already recorded at Bathouse).

When i hear more, i will let you all know.

On another note, Bobby Baker will be performing in Jesus Christ Superstar in Kingston....scheduled to begin in April.
I'm gonna come straight out and say it... Bad call on a greatest hits boys. I mean, all of us hip fans own all the albums anyways. And if the greatest hits album is to be released, I'm gonna buy it, just because it's the hip.

Oh well,
Rob Baker said in an interview that the record company was making them release a greatest hits package.
It is in the contract.

Has anyone mentioned this to Stephen so he can incorporate it into his script?? :jump

Guess what? Greatest hits albums are never aimed at the people who own all the albums.

They're put out for people who don't own all the albums.

Those people actually appreciate greatest hits collections, because they don't have to buy all the albums. Because not everyone actually wants to buy all the albums....

Took the words right out of my mouth. That is exactly who it is aimed at. if they market it well, it will sell tons of copies, I hope that band makes money of a GH's
Every band that is signed to a lengthy major record contract is obliged to release a "live" or "greatest hits" album after a certian amount of records. I commend The Hip for holding out on hte Greatest Hits package as long as they have, considering the amount of original albums they have produced. They opted for the "Live" record first, most certianly to swell their longevity.
I really hope more people do their homework and recognise these facts. A "Greatest Hits" album is really something to be proud of. And if one band could get away with making thier's a double album, it would certianly be The Hip.
Period.

Who do ya think gave THEM the idea? Smile

This whole industry: stage, screen, you name it; is just about seeing who can steal the most ideas the fastest. My integrity is so insulted, I might just really demonstrate my disgust by reducing my stripper intake to six per week, and telling the studio: On Thursdays, stop adding bills to my pyramid of cash. Only then will I respect this town.

As for the Hits/DVD deal, I hope it's one-a-them DVD/CD double sided deals. It'd be cool to have all the videos, maybe a little documentary piece to go along with it. Hell, I'd be happy if Johhny took us on a Jackie-O style tour of the Bath House.

But, nobody ever summed up Greatest Hits discs like the Barenaked Ladies: "If you're a fan, then you've already got 'em"
Skippy hit it on the head. I buy alot of GH collections so I don't have to buy all the discs or search for them on the Net. I've made many Hip GH discs for friends who don't have much of their stuff, and they're just as happy with their GH disc as we are when a new Hip album comes out. One girl is now asking for a third GH disc to compliment the two I already made her. She's just astounded at how deep their catalogue is.

There's an enormus amount of passive fans, even ones that lost touch, that will definitely buy it, as opposed to the smaller group of die-hards that won't. And Proud is right; a double-disc will certainly do them justice.

Oh well,

Confusedcratch: I don't get it. Confusedcratch:

You say it's a 'bad call', yet you're 'gonna buy it'?

Sounds like a great call - release a GH album, throw a couple unreleased tracks on it, and watch it outsell all your previous releases.

Im looking forward to it myself, cant wait for the 2 new songs. But I hope this doesnt mean ddd444 was off about the B-sides album, I hope we get both. Just wonderin what songs will be on it? Or moreso, what wont be on it?? Thats too tough a call, maybe a box set would of been more appropriate, with a live album a greatest hits package and some b-sides, kind of like AC/DC's bonfire. Anyone else think so?
I imagine the HoF induction and Juno nods might generate a swelling of interest in a GH package. There's probably a certain population in the industy with a mindset of "How can they be in teh HoF? They don't even have a greatest hits album!" I'll buy it because to not buy it would go against everything I believe in.

As for Rob portraying Christ, he's definitely got the "look" down, but has anyone heard him sing? I'm just asking 'cause I don't know if I've ever seen him with a mic. I'm a hardcore Superstar fan & JC's vocals cover a pretty wide range so he'd have to be a pretty talented vocalist to even attempt the role.

Of course, if Rob's Christ has a Fender slung over his shoulder... Smile
boooooo on the greatest hits + previously unreleased on the same album.

recognizing the validity of everything said above about (a) recording deal; (b) reaching other market segments; © longevity; (d) place in history; (e) whatever else you all said above that makes good sense -- I still say booooo.

Give me the two unreleased songs on a single. Put out a greatest hits only album that I can either buy or not to be a completist. But, boooooo, on the basically-forcing-me-as-a-HUGE-fan to buy songs I already have to get songs I want. Booooo.

If anyone replies and tell me that I am ungrateful and the Hip are people too and they have a business and they can do what they want and I should stick it in my ear ... Your objection/passion/intelligence/ charisma/charm/wit/fashion sense/dignity/humanity etc. are duly noted, and simultaneously cherished, but I don't care.

It's the principle. It's not the $14.99. Boooo on the unreleased songs packaged with greatest hits. Boooo forever.

And I am not saying Boooo-urns.

Even a double CD would mean leaving out some great songs. Do you think So Hard Done By and Trickle Down will make the cut?
If it's really a double-disc, I'm hoping they do a greatest hits/b-sides combination, sort of like what U2 did on their "best of" albums. Put the hits on one disc and the b-sides on the other.
