No. Canada did not enter the Vietnam war.
A number of Canadians enlisted in the American armed forces during the Vietnam war, however, either because they believed in the cause or wanted adventure. In recent years, a memorial to those killed was erected. This may be the source of Ann Coulter's confusion.
Either that, or it's the terminal stages of rabies.
I wonder where she got that info from.

cratch:
And once again she proves what a moron she actually is.....
Canada did support the Vietnam war, and we did have members of our military serving under US commands... just like we do in Iraq today.
The bombs that razed civilian neighbourhoods in Cambodia, Loas and Vietnam were built in Ontario. The depleted uraniam that has been in American weapons from then until now comes from our North.
Chomsky considers Lester Pearson a war criminal of the worst sort because he publicly disavowed the war (Famously 'pissing on LBJ's rug') but tacitly supported it. I disagree with Chomsky, but to say Canada didn't participate in Vietnam is a real stretch.
As for Colter, anybody who saw her interview with Niel Macdonald (Norm's brother!) on the CBC saw her insecurities and ignorance laid bare. She's like a little girl who's just been told Santa Clause isn't real... but instead of contemplation, she snaps to defend her flat-world opinions. I'd still ding her though.
Actually, it's saying that Canada did participate in Vietnam that's a stretch.
The question here was whether Canada sent troops, i.e., whether Canada directly participated. Canada did not.
What you're attempting to do is to redefine the question, i.e. to expand it to include indirect participation. Canada's indirect support can't be disputed, but that wasn't the question they were discussing.

Oy. Yes we did. It was done "unofficially," but we were directly in, and in directly deep. But thanks for the lecture. "Understanding Power" (I think you can still get it through Chapters, Amazon and the like) has all the gory details.
And what was that direct participation, Dame? Which Canadian units served in Vietnam?
Oh, and what DU munitions were used in Vietnam? And where in Canada do we mine DU?

Directly in how? Special forces, intelligence agents, tactical or training units?
Oh, look, Dame made an edit.
Well, Dame, I don't see why we'd all rush out and buy a book to find out about Canada's direct participation in the Vietnam war, since we're talking to the guy with all the answers.
Since you've read it (and since the question isn't what Chomsky wrote, but how you've interpreted it), perhaps you'd like to answer the questions put to you, instead of throwing out another appeal to authority and running for cover?
Looks like you're having an Ann Coulter moment of your own.
So I reiterate: which units? What DU weapons? DU mined where?
Coulter insists that Canada as a country fought the war in Vietnam with the US. That is false. Yes Canadians did fight in Vietnam but were enlisted in the US military, they were not wearing CF uniforms.
In addition, how could Canada have been supporting a war while at the same time they were accepting draft doggers from the US who wanted to avoid it. Doesnt make to much sense does it.

cratch:
Not sure what you are getting at Dame. But I think you are wrong.
I know that DU was extracted from Canadian mines in or leading up to the period of the Vietnam War, more specifically from the Uranium City and Elliot Lake mine sites.
As far as Canadian soldiers actively participating in Vietnam activities, the official records indicate that many Canadians enlisted in the US services to fight. There is a section dedicated to these men and women at the War Museum here in Ottawa (Which is temporarily closed btw right now until the new one finally opens...which will be extraordinary) However as far as special forces units go, I suppose the only thing one can do is speculate or opine based on heresay.
Goulet!!!
Well, here's the DU answer: DU has never been extracted from a mine anywhere in the world. DU is a byproduct of uranium enrichment for use in nuclear reactors or nuclear weapons. DU does not originate from northern Canada, unless we have secret uranium-enrichment plants up there that nobody knows about.
The second DU answer: no DU weapons were in use during the Vietnam war, as they were still under development. DU would have had little practical use in Vietnam in any case, as it is an anti-armour weapon. It was developed to counter spaced armour in tanks, which renders shaped-charge anti-tank weapons ineffective. Widespread development of DU penetrators to replace tungsten carbide penetrators didn't begin until about 1973.
Am I picking nits? I dunno. To claim that Canadian mines supplied a product that they did not produce, for weapons that did not exist, rather undermines the credibility of one's argument, doesn't it?
Maybe it would be better if we did all read Chomsky's book. At least he gets the facts straight.
Oh, and Robert, the issue isn't whether Canadians fought in Vietnam as volunteers, but whether Canada, as a state, sent troops.
I wouldnt think the Canadian armed forces at the time had troops with any kind of useful specialty like counter-insurgency training or had experience fighting in the type of terrain encountered in Vietnam. It would have been much more believable of Coulter to claim British or Dutch troops saw combat in Vietnam.
Where did Dame go? Only FOX News dares to raise questionable points for nothing more than make controversy (we did not support the war and did not participate directly in it..."tacitly" support a war without fighting it is called LIP SERVICE)! Mayeb he went where the money was?
The thread asks if we sent troops. We didn't. Coulter's wrong.
