In the 2000 Syracuse show, Gord introduced ABAC with "this next number is called Have Not Been The Same"
I'm trying to find the origin of this name? Is it the name of, or lyric from, another song by another artist? (For example, I've also heard him introduce ABAC as "You Can't Be 20 on Sugar Mountain" -- Neil Young reference.)

Obviously there must be some relation to Gord's introduction and the book, but is there more to it, or is he just plugging the book? The book seems to have been released in 2001, a year after the show (?)
Determined as I am, I dug deeper into Google.
It's the name of a song by a Canadian band "Slow" from 1985. So that settles that. Anyway... Anyone have the book?
I've got the book, and refer to it often. A great reference for the history of CanRock.

i believe the band "Slow" actually became the band "Copyright" after their last gig at Expo '86. There's a Copyright CD-Rom with a clip of the band playing said song, me thinks. I'll dig around, see if i still have it. It's a decent CD.

I've got the book as well. It's easily the most comprehensive history of Canadian rock I've ever seen, and it's an absolute joy to read. Beware though, this book will send you rummaging through used record stores looking for long out of print albums.

I've always wanted to get my hands on some stuff by Slow after reading Have Not Been The Same. I remember seeing Copyright at an EdgeFest back in High School and not believing that they were the same band (I read the book in university)
It's kind of neat that GD would introduce ABAC as that. I would have figured that The Hip and Slow wouldn't have followed the same kind of circles circa 1986. But that's just me.

I ordered the book online from a US source a few years ago... the customs charge was $12. I think you could kill small dogs with it. She's a beast.

Copyright eh? They kicked around with Matthew Good Band and Treblecharger about 4 years ago. They had that big hit "The Rock Machine" which they named after a Quebec biker gang. I saw them live, and they weren't that great. The lead singer had a pair of tight pants and a raging boner the whole time. Then he got pelted by bottles.

I don't doubt it, I found them disappointing also. I saw their CD release show in Vancouver around the same time and was expecting more (musicially, that is). However, the singer's tight pants were not quite tight enough at this particular show, as he kept getting frustrated by having to pull them back up. One could go off into speculation here, but...
anyway
The CD which had my expectations up for Copyright is called "Transfiguration". The title track and the song "Radio" make for good headphone listening, and I'm sure both these songs have been played before the Hip have taken stage, at least at California gigs (i've noticed "Radio" on a couple of occasions).
