TATHH reminds me of when I lived at the lake and my daughter was 7...

DFN reminds me of an exgirlfriend...we'd just met, and 3 weeks later we were off on a whirlwind trip to europe..everybody thought we were crazy, and we probably were..but dfn had just come out, and was a great soundtrack to our lives..especially listening to it in a bar called "the doors" in amsterdam...

Toronto #4 reminds me of my grandmother. I know exactly what Gord is saying.... mine passed away very close to the same time his did and this song... hits it !

My NaNa passed in Toronto too although she lived in Parry Sound (home of #4 Bobby Orr)

opiated - As soon as I read your "i love you even when, i don't even know i'm doin' it" quote it reminded me of what it always reminds me of - driving north to a buddy's cottage in the summer of 96 with a girl I was crazy about (but she had never shown one ounce of interest in me outside of the dreaded "friendship"). I was playing DFN and she hadn't heard Impossibilium before and when she first heard that line she turned to me and said: "I love you even when I don't even know I'm doin it - that's kinda like us."

I always see that as the turning point in the relationship between my wife and I. :lol:

In the order they were discovered:

Fully Completely is finally discovering a popular band that I liked too. AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and "When I think about you I touch myself" hadn't been doing it for me. Neil Pomeroy had it on tape, and the bass line to Meridian swept me away in its undertow.

Up to Here is recording music videos for the first time. The bum drinking from a jar is etched in my mind for all eternity.

Road Apples is one of my first cassette purchases.

Day for Night is drinks at the bar in university.

Trouble at the Henhouse is playing cards with friends around a kitchen table.

Phantom Power is travelling across Canada by train. The CD came out when I was in Winnipeg. On the way to Jasper, I sat next to a beautiful blonde girl and said, "Here, you've got to listen to this new song called Bobcaygeon."

Live Between Us is music to stay awake by while I tried to put together the university newspaper overnight.

The EP is looking at my brother when Evelyn came on, then both of us laughing hysterically.

Music@Work is arguing with friends that the Hip hadn't "lost it."

In Violet Light is working on my laptop in hotel bars.

In Between Evolution is sitting in an apartment in Vienna, thinking about how lucky I've been.

And, as I've recounted elsewhere on this site, all of it was wrapped up in tidy little bow (save for IBE) by my girlfriend, who listened to me sing every single Hip song as we lay beside each other in a tent by the mountains in Te Anau, New Zealand.

Up To hear, reminds me of driving around in my Geo Tracker during my last years of highschool....

That tape was on constant play for a few good years, and then it went down with the ship one sad day coming home from guelph.

RIP Tracker, falls apart....

IVL - reminds me of living in Minnesota, but Good Life can pick me up at any time and calm me when needed.

Courage - reminds me of the wonderful feeling I had while reading "The Watch that Ends The Night" However, the video reminds me when I used to watch their videos on Videos Hits on CBC when I was younger. I remember thinking Gord looked "stupid" i nthat video and thinking Paul looked like an ugly woman lol

Ahead by a Century - Reminds me of my first real job I started in 1994, working on a bus with Developmentally Disabled people. I used to have a bus driver who listen to CHOM out of Montreal all of the time and they played that song a lot. Same with Boots or Hearts.

Last American Exit - Makes me think of home because my hometown is only three exits from the 'last american exit' in upstate New York.

You're Everywhere - Will always remind me of seeing them live for the first time in October because that was the song they opened with.

Up to Here and "38 Years old" was high school, driving around Peggy's Cove back home, bemoaning my lack of girl and wondering if I was going to live the line literally.... 38 years old and never kissed a girl....

Thankfully it didn't.

I think so many moments relate to so many events throughout the day. I'm constantly reminded of a lyric during random events. Seems all the albums speak to me on some level.

I guess the most obvious connection I feel to an album is Phantom Power, since it references places I've been, and it was the soundtrack to the summer of '98 which is the summer I'll always wish was here again.

I just love reading the other posts on threads like these and realizing I'm not the only one with an overdeveloped sense of connection to five regular dudes from Kingston.

The song 'Scared' reminds me of sitting in the backseat of a friend's car with my girlfriend..Wishing the girl in the front seat, driving the car, was.

I know exactly what you mean (she said, I swear to god she said...), I'll hear one word during a conversation or on t.v. or something and it reminds me of a hip song.

IVL was the soundtrack to my summer in 2003, and A Beautiful Thing really helped me when my dog had to be put down.

Phantom Power - My junior year swim season. We went 0-11, simply because of numbers. Each swimmer made it to states individually, but it was a rough season. I remember riding the bus home from practice, chunks of ice in my hair, and listening to Thompson Girl. Even now, I view it as the perfect winter album.

DFN - College visits! I subjected my mother to obscene amounts of hip on our trips up and down the east coast. We got stuck in the Leigh Valley Tunnel on 476 for a two hours...no radio reception and DFN was the only music we had in the car. We had run out of things to talk about a few hours before, and sitting in the quiet chaos listening to DFN meant more to me than most any conversation.

Up to Here - Senior year of high school. College applications, all night rehearsals, essays, essays, essays. Up to Here was playing during all of them. I tried in vain to turn all my theatre buddies onto the hip...at best they tolerated me. :lol:

IVL - Summer before college/meeting my boyfriend. We met on the IVL tour on a hot and sticky June night. It was pretty much all we listened to when together, sitting by the river and talking, or just driving aimlessly since neither of us wanted to go home. He included "A Beautiful Thing" on a mix CD he made me to take on vacation...most personal of all the albums for me.

IBE - Moving time... The aforementioned boyfriend moved into his new place the day IBE came out. We listened and cleaned and organized for the better part of a month. It also reminds me of driving to the local university for summer classes and jotting down the lyrics in the corner of my notes.

So do I...I guess that’s due to the wealth of wintertime imagery [e.g. “it's wintertime, the house is solitude with options” (Fireworks), all of Thompson Girl, “bring on the springtime” (Membership), “amid the withered cornstalks in them winter regions” (Poets), “the ice is covering the trees” (Something On), etc....]

However, PP was released in July, and usually for me, most memories or ‘states of being’ that get linked to a particular collection of music (album or disc) seem to correlate to the general moment or period of time that shortly follows its discovery.

But I had to pop PP in my car’s changer when the snow first started to fly, and its been in there ever since....

DFN reminds me mowing my lawn with headphones on, waiting to go to work at a kids camp. The best job i've ever had. Listened to it all summer.
M@W reminds of breaking up with a girlfriend listening to Lake Fever and trying not the let the situation ruin the music. It didn't.

sorry to go off topic, but the first album I ever listened to completely stoned was Soundgarden's "Superunknown", basically it was the beginning of the end (long story) :lol: That album has a special place in my heart, and for the record I dont get stoned anymore, no seriously!

As for the Hip and my personal ontology (good word choice), There's so many things I can put here, the Hip really reflects alot of my inner thoughts, I dont really have any specifics about events and happenings, just alot, and I mean alot of memories and thoughts, its proving hard to describe the thoughts and feelings I get when I hear certain songs and certain albums, but Im sure we all get them, and thats whats great about music, it can take you away to a better place, bring you up when your down and all kinds of great things inbetween. Personally no-one affects me like the Hip do, with certain songs I get the same images over and over again, for instance Pigeon Camera always brings me back to the Heksenketel video, when they're riding on the bus and the song is playing and all you can see is open spaces and pavement, whenever Im driving I always like to hear that song, just things like that I guess, like I said there is too many to mention, great thread!
