Since their being inducted into the Hall Of Fame, hopefully they'll get to play a few songs...
It's been a long time since the Hip last played on the Junos. I believe the last time was 1992, and that wasn't even on the actual show. It was live via satellite from Australia. They won the Canadian entertainer of the year award, and when they cut to the performance, Gord was wearing a t-shirt that said "Dog of the year".
I remember reading an interview in the mid 90s with one of the guys (can't remember which one) where they mentioned that the reason why they never play the Junos is because they don't want anything to do with them. Apparently they've been asked a bunch of times, but they've always turned them down. Personally I've always thought award shows were idiotic and completely meaningless, and I'm guessing the Hip feel the same way. Much like the Grammys, the Junos usually give out awards to the worst artists imaginable. I think the Hip's hall of fame induction is pretty cool, because it shows that the Canadian music industry is actually capable of awarding an artist who truly deserves it.
What will they play? something old? something new?
The fact that the HIP haven't won or been nominated for more awards at the Junos in recent years and haven't played live since '92 there affirms how meaningless the Junos have been. With the HIP getting this award and performing and thereby stealing the show perhaps now the Junos will earn the respect of more Canadians.
They cared enough about being nominated to show up to the press conference back in November when they were in Winnipeg so I don't see why they wouldn't play a song or two.
Anyone think there's a chance for a "secret" show in Winnipeg while they're here?

Sure hope the Hip get to play a couple songs... hey they're getting into the Hall of Fame, they've earned it!
On another note, cool to see Brent Butt hosting the show, the guy is hilarious, I'm sure he'll do a good job.
