ok..i did this once before, but rather than reviving the old thread(sorry search police), and with all the talk in the "3play" thread about DFN and the first 7 songs...it's time again...pick your 2 favorite sides from 2 discs to make up the ultimate hip cd..for me, i would start with the first 7 songs on dfn, and end with the 2nd side of IBE (you're everywhere-josephine)...
anybody care to add?
First eight songs from FC (up to and including FC) -- and -- the last five songs from PP (beginning with Vapor Trails)

And just because this is not easy - my second choice would be -

First seven songs from M@W (up to and including Completists - songs 4,5 and 7 are so underated) -- and -- the second side of IBE (beginning with You're Everywhere).
I didn't know discs had two sides...maybe I have only been listening to half an album all these years.
Awww man, this is anything but simple...
First half of DFN I guess plus Boots through Opiated of UTH.

But I mean to me, all of DFN in all its glory has always been the ultimate Hip album.

it's time to harken back to the days of vinyl~~
first half of DFN, last half of Up To Here
First half of DFN with the last half of IBE

Goulet!!!
my head hurts.......
Ummmm....

The second half of Day For Night. But I wish I could include 'Nautical' in that category (I'd pick the first half, but I maintain that 'Greasy Jungle' and 'Daredevil' basically suck. And I can't listen to the studio version of 'Grace' given its immense inferiority to live versions, e.g., the one on 'Live Between Us').

So, that's that. Side 2 would be...hmmm...the second half of IBE.

There.

On a related note (and I'm sure this has been hashed out in here before), I've never quite forgiven CDs for depriving us of the effect of the two-sided LP: where each side could serve as a distinct, if related. musical statement. I mean, try listening to Sgt. Pepper as an LP: you get the wonderful crescendo and mind-blowing sonic effect of 'Mr Kite.' Then silence, leaving you as much time as you need to process what you've heard, before flipping it over and thudding into 'Within You and Without You' (ouch).

On CD, you plunge immediately---and bathetically---from Kite to Within/Without, and Kite suffers in consequence. That song is sequenced to be a side-closer. It loses impact as just another tune in the mix.
I think Killer Whale's comment about Greasy Jungle and Daredevil sucking just gave me 23 simultaneous seizures.

To each their own....I suppose.
First side lbu.
Second side lbu.
23 simultaneous seizures! That's a heavy responsibility.

Well, 'suck' may be too strong. Daredevil has a great lyric, but the melody seems to me to go nowhere---it's kinda monotonous, banal. 'Vaccination Scar' is similar in that respect, but a much more interesting song IMHO. As for 'Greasy,' the song is OK, but the extended "aaaah' part seems uninspired to me, and the tinny mix seems all wrong...it's as though that song should sound tougher than it does. (Good video, though).

Hopefully this explanation eases your seizures a bit.

chalk up another couple for me. Even the explanation from KWT above could not stem the rush of blood.

I'll take last six on Road Apples any day of the week. And I'll grab the last 6 on IBE as well.

If I gotta take a first half, it's between Fully Competely and DFN

In fact, I'll do two picks: FC/RA for the old schoolers among us and DFN/IBE for the Hip at their best.

That made me laugh so hard I almost snorted Diet Coke through my nose!  Not to mention I agree with your sentiment... I have trouble believing anyone can think Greasy and Daredevil suck... but to each his/her own... I'll stop now before this turns into a total "slam Killer Whale" thread. Smile

Anyway, I know I would start with the first half of DFN, but do I pair it with the back half of RA, or the back half of FC? Decisions, decisions...
