So what's the situation with the guys? whose married with kids, etc ...

The reason I ask is when I was at the November Toronto show, I was seated in sec. 118 right beside the stage, so right in front of me, for three rows, were about 15-20 people all wearing Backstage Passes, even several young girls, three woman which I would presume are wives/girlfriends, and then an few older couples, one man had very strong similarities to Gord D, i can only assume it was his father. So great seeing this individual gyrate to the music, only to appear exhausted after the first half dozen songs, he remained in his seat after that, except to head backstage to come back with drinks in hand.

pretty fun when every few songs or so, someone in the group would get up, walk down the aisle, clear security, dissapear to the inner bowels of the ACC, only to return with Red platic cups of liquid, Cans of coke (which we know the ACC does not sell nor allow you to bring in. Amusing that they were getting in on the Rider so to speak, or at least enjoying the fruit's of the band's sucess.

so, just who were these mystery people?

were they indeed the families of the band?
Most likely friend, family of the band..yes..I won't get into specifics about children of marital status, I think that's a bit too personal, but..yeah..there ya go..those special bastards!
I went to highschool with a Girl who claimed to be Gord Downies cousin...
I dont know why she would have made that up, so there ya go...he has a cousin my age...
Sort of on this topic, but I used to teach swimming lessons at the local city pool here in Guelph. One day I had a class of 7 year olds and on the first day of lessons I asked them to tell me something about them as an introduction. The kids are all going around saying random stuff until one pipes up and says, "my uncle Johnny's the drummer for the Tragically Hip!" Well I sure as hell didn't expect that one! The kids Dad was Johnny's older brother and we had a few hip related chats. Nice family.
Guelph rules...anyways..
My brother used to rent a place in Kingston at Brock and Frontenac ... the landlord was Edgar Downie, Gord's pa. At the end of the school year (May 1996) I was helping my brother move out, and Edgar was over, collecting rents or returning security deposits or something and we're all asking him questions about the new album (TATH), and he's telling us how he thinks it's their best yet and it's amazing how they've just kept progressing steadily since the first album. It was pretty neat.

That same year, also in K-town, I had a landlord named Gord. No relation.
