What the hell is with all the hype? Beside a hand full of amusing scenes, I felt this movie sucked.

Yep, love it or hate it. I actually enjoyed it. However, I must clarify that realizing the "hype" died as quickly as it started and knowing the movie was only in theaters for about three days lowered my expectations considerably.

The time machine scene alone was worth the price of the rental, and it had some cool tunes in it. Actually, the Jack White tune at the beginnig was worth the rental.

I just take each flick for what it is and don't ever expect Oscar-worthy films. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised but I never feel ripped off.

Most overrated movie of the year. The dance scene was hilarious, and the dialogue was mildly funny, but overall I didn't think it was as brilliant as everyone said it was.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but what about Garden State? I keep hearing alot of buzz about this movie as one of the best indie films of the year alongside Napoleon Dynamite and I was wondering if I should check it out.

I loved Garden State. Intelligent script, great acting, and great direction from Zach Braff. If this guy keeps making movies this good, he's got a long career ahead of him.
Garden State was very solid. I'd check it out. Best movie I saw this year was Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind. I'd definitely see that one!

Garden State is an unbelievable film. I was shocked at the amazing script and acting. Definately a must see!

Zach Braff is my hero. He picks all of his favorite tunes, makes a movie to go along with them and then makes out with Natalie Portman to top it off. Nice. :thumb:
Vote For Pedro.
"This is pretty much the worst video ever made."
"Like anyone can even know that."

All three movies mentioned in this thread so far are great.
Napoleon Dynamite
Garden State
and the best... Eternal Sunshine. :thumb:
I hadn't heard too much about Napoleon Dynamite before i rented it. I watched it, and enjoyed it. But a few days after, i couldn't stop thinking about it...needless to say, i now own the movie.

"a very proud owner of Napoleon Dynamite"
I had to go rent it after everything that's been said. I LOVE love-'em-or-hate-'em movies. Almost without exception, I have to see one whenever anybody bestows that title upon it. And because I'd never heard of the movie before this thread (I download all my favourite shows to watch at work, and of course I miss the commercials that way)., I had no idea what to expect. I hated the very beginning, but because I work security I'm effectively a "captive audience" and I stuck with it. And am I ever glad I did! I thought it was a very charming movie. Now I have to see Garden State!
