not a chance..american idiot is not only a way better single, but a much better cd as well...i've said it before and i'll say it again...how to dismantle could be the most overrated album since...well...u2's last cd?

Well bud, you seem to not like U2 at all from the get-go, which is cool, but objectivity with you doesn't seem the greatest.

That said, I am a hardcore U2 fan, so neither does mine. But as a drummer, I play LOTS of greenday with my band and am a huge greenday fan.

personally, between the Two, vertigo is a better song. The new U2 CD in my opinion is awesome, not perfect but very very good. Highlights for me are miracle drug, original of the species and Crumbs. hell, as I write thing, i'm trying to stop myself from naming the whole album.

Greenday's album, as good as it is, with its AMAZING SONGS ( Jesus of suburbia, OMG!), but i don't know, listen to it once, listened to it all. It just starts to get redundant, but maybe thats just me.

Anyways, for you U2 h8ers, and fans like me, with a sense of humour, check this out...

Well between U2 and Green Day, I'd vote for Green Day. I listened to their entire album but I haven't listened to U2's so I might be biased. But between Vertigo (a very good song) and American Idiot (also a very good song) I'd lean towards American Idiot. And I'm not really a "fan" of either.

There's actually quite a few good songs on that list.
Looks like I'm making a "Greatest of 2004" cd.

I never liked Green Day, but I LOVE the song and album American Idiot. I couldn't believe it when I heard it first, sounded like whole other band from what I knew. It was like they simultaniously tapped into a whole goldmine of anger and then focused it through a lens of maturity and wisdom they never had before either. I think it comes ooff SO well.

U2....well...Vertigo was a good song for the first 20 listens, now it's just another pop song....and the album, can't hold a candle at ALL to Green Day's. The whole thing smacks off too much effort, not enough instinct.

I guess whatI'm saying is American Idiot sounds like a prolonged knee-jerk reaction to something infuriating and Vertigo sounds like a laboured, layered effort.

The Tragically Hip aren't on there.

There is however a band called Targically Hip. I wonder how they are.

I think both albums are amazing. The writing on both is top notch, and both bands seem to be going through somewhat of a rejuvination period. American Idiot is easily the best album of Green Day's career, while Atomic Bomb is by far U2's strongest effort since Achtung Baby. Vertigo, Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own, All Because of You, Crumbs from Your Table, and Original of the Species are all fantastic songs which in my opinion can be ranked right up there with U2's best material. The upcoming tour is gonna be amazing.

This list is just one more reason I don't listen to "edge" 102. Maybe if I was 15, I would.

On a personal note, Green Day's album is their best to date. U2's, isn't their best, I would say. They're both great records, nevertheless.

And really, most of these songs are from 2003. WTF?

U2 (or at least Bono) should have pulled a Buddy Holly after Rattle. Then, all of us would lament, "How many more great albums would they have made?!" Then, if they had gone the way of Richie and the Big Bopper, none of us would be so let down that this once great band had then gone on over the course of the last 15 years to produce 5 shitty additional albums and sunk so low as to do asshole yuppie commercials for apple. What the hell happened to "Sunday Bloody Sunday"? This band has sold out and compromised the music that made them, and that they continue to allegedly celebrate. Bobby Sands and Michael Collins are rolling over in their graves.

90% of this list is bull. Full of phony bands spun by the marketing regimes of record companies.

actually, bud...i do like u2..quite a bit..i just think that the last 2 cd's are highly overrated...they've reverted to doing what the critics want them to do, and have stopped moving forward (in my opinon)...sure, people dis some their 90's stuff, but it was fresh..they were trying something..it was exciting...now it seems like going through the motions...

Okay, so you like U2, but you don't like recent U2. Which is fine, but there are several Million people who would disagree with you. Just saying.
