Full Version: No Love for the Auburn Tigers?

I'm a HUGE college football nut, and since there doesn't seem to be a single peep about the Bowls or the BCS debacle, I guess I'll take the initiative (and please, let’s not have any of the ignorant remarks I’ve seen around here that associates football to redneckedness, okay?)

First off, I’m a Big 10 guy (Go Bucks!), which means I usually have no love for Southern or West Coast ball, but I must extend my congratulations to the Auburn Tigers and all who love and support them for a fantastic undefeated season in a top-notch conference. They are Co-National Champions in my book, and deserve to be acknowledged as such throughout the college football community.

The structure of the BCS is ridiculous, and is proven more so with each passing year and each new controversy. Auburn has delivered an historic 13-0 season, were crowned as Champions of both the SEC and the Sugar Bowl, and still are about to suffer the gross injustice of not being officially recognized as National Champion OR National Co-champion.

That, fans, is utterly unconscionable, and is a shafting of epic proportions.
last nights game was pretty boring except for the last few minutes when Va Tech scored and had a shot. Ya Auburn is good and the BCS in screwy. I would probably watch more if they had a playoff format.

GO BLUE!!
Nate Clements from the Ohio State University, and Winfield until he bolted for the Vikes. Two pretty good corners from THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY.

Anyway, the BCS is foolish. There should be a playoff. The excuse about getting in the way of exams and all that nonsense if dumb because most of the football players don't need good grades anyway. Some college football players get a credit for playing on the football team so that shows how serious these colleges are about the academic side of things. An extra weekend or two could solve most of the problems with the top 4 teams playing semi-final games and the two winners meeting. It's not that radical of a concept despite what the naysayers are saying on television.

This same problem happens every year with three teams that all have legitimate claims to be playing for the title and only two can get in.

BTW, is Antrell Rolle as good as they say? I've been hearing great things about this young CB.

As much as it pains me say anything nice about anyone or anything affiliated with University of Miami, I must say that A. Rolle is something special. He's fast, and he's just.....always there, it seems. [I might completely deny ever saying this. Do not repeat a word of it or you will die.]

In regards to your thoughts on the BCS, I agree on both points - that a short playoff (they could get 'bye' on as few as six teams, [pun intended]) would solve everything, and that college athletics has just spiraled out of control in its relationship to academia. I'm embarrassed by Ohio State's student-athlete problems - alleged academic improprieties, criminal arrests, cash gifts from boosters, etc. The fact that every U does it (and be assured, they do...some players have graduated colleges and universities with out ever knowing how to read) is no excuse: the concept of student-althletics is nothing more than just that - a concept - at most big-time Universities with winning athletic programs.

It makes all arguments over the BCS seem irrelevant, really  .....
Speaking about college football, USC is spanking the Sooners at the moment. Another thing though: was it just me or did the crowd give a big hefty spattering of boos after Ashley Simpson finished performing? I love those fans!!!!!
Yeah, I agree, a playoff is needed in college football to end this BCS crapola.

What about Utah, who has also gone undefeated and spanked Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl? Maybe they are not at the level of Auburn, Oklahoma or USC, but they deserved a chance to measure themselves at that level.

Absolutelty. Undefeated Utah should get a shot, too. I don't believe they are the nation's #1 team, but hey, isn't that why they play the games? I thought OU would beat USC last night....so much for the value of speculation.....
