Ugh... anyone else read where Shaun Alexander claim he was "stabbed in the back" because he ended up losing the NFL rushing yards title by one yard? Here's part of the article.

Quote:Seattle's Shaun Alexander, upset after finishing one yard behind Curtis Martin for the NFL rushing title, questioned why coach Mike Holmgren called a quarterback sneak in a big win over Atlanta.

"We were going to win anyway," Alexander said after Sunday's game. "We were on the freaking goal-line and I got stabbed in the back."

Alexander made his remarks in the locker-room after the Seahawks beat Atlanta 28-26, securing the NFC West title for Seattle and guaranteeing a home game with St. Louis in next weekend's wild-card round.

The Seahawks went ahead 28-20 with 4:28 remaining when quarterback Matt Hasselbeck scored on a one-yard sneak on second-and-goal.

Alexander, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, blamed that call for costing him a share of the rushing title. He finished with 80 yards on 19 attempts against Atlanta.

"It would have been sweet to get it," Alexander said. "I feel worse because we had a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. That hurts, but I'll be all right."

Uh, news flash Shaun... football is a TEAM sport, and the object is to WIN games and get into the PLAYOFFS, which your team did on Sunday. Complaining about your coach's decision that led to your TEAM scoring the WINNING touchdown is ridiculous at best. If I'm this guy's teammate, I can't wait to see this guy hit the bricks!

Grrrr... :x :rambo: :rambo:
im sure it is a clause in his contract that he got a bonus if he got the rushing title. Im pretty sure that bonus figures against the salary cap. The word going around is that Holmgren was keeping tabs on the updated stats from Curtis Martin. I think it was actually a dick move by Holmgren. Alexander is gonna be a free agent this year and I think he wants out. I would rather give the ball to the best RB in the league at the 1 yard line than have my QB run a sneak.
What a dick. "We were gonna win anyway?" Isn't the only reason they won because Atlanta didn't get their 2 point convert as time expired? It is amazing to me that running backs simply don't realize just how much a good offensive line has to do with their success. Just look at Denver. Doesn't matter who they plug in there - they put up big numbers. I hope Alexander signs with a team with a piss-poor offensive line and gets the snot beat out of him next year. Of course then he'll blame the offensive line for his problems.
I have to agree that Alexander was being a Grade A foot-in-mouth mouthpiece and not a team player, but having had Holmgren as our coach in Green Bay, it does not surprise me in the least that he would try to screw over a player about a bonus that would count against the cap. He is the type of coach who micromanages everything and the odds of him knowing exactly where Alexander and Curtis Martin stood in relation to another are very good. That said, I think a worst piece of evidence of the Me-Firstisms is Randy Moss's behavior in the final seconds of the game, just walking to the locker room with 2 seconds left to go and your team down by 3 and hoping to get a lucky bounce on the onside kick. What a class act.
This is a good example of how free agency is ruining sports...can you imagine Ditka not giving payton the ball if he needed one yard for the rushing title? can you imagine Shula not letting marino try for a touchdown to break the single season passing record? I don't blame Alexander for his comments, I'd be ripped too. I also don't blame Holmgren if there was bonus money on the line, given his backs desire to go to a different team...all this being said I hope the fins sign him...ahh duplicity wins again!

Point taken. However, Alexander is not the best RB in the league. There are at least four better RB's in the league. Alexander is a softy in my opinion. That play at the goal-line a few weeks ago where he fumbled is the perfect example of his demeanor. A TRULY GREAT RB would have willed the ball to the endzone, not fumbled away his team's hopes. Seattle are a crap team with a crap coach and it's a joke that a team so poor is in the playoffs.

I agree with that, and it pisses me off because I used to LOVE the Seahawks back in the day. When I was a young football fan in the 80's, the Seahawks were my favorite team other than the Bills...I liked them almost as much as my home team. Jim Zorn, Steve Largent, oh man they were cool. Zorn had that left-handed delivery and he was such a scrambler. I started liking them in the early 80s when they really sucked, but then they went on a little run in the late 80's where they were contenders for a few years. They always had good games against the Broncos, Raiders and Chiefs. Now with them out of the AFC West, with horrible new uniforms, and with the coaches and players they have now I actually dislike the team. Oh well, that's sports for ya.
