I'm not sure if this is already common knowledge?...but I received an e-mail from a Canadian chum last week:

"...I was in the studio a few months ago where a Gord Downey [Ed: Ahem, yeah, he's not a big Hip fan! Smile] version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was being mixed for inclusion on a film that I was working on. You might know the original, or perhaps even the Jeff Buckley version. Folks here were very impressed with the result...it's some new music that should be coming your way in the spring (assuming that his damn winter eventually ends)."

And before anyone might ask... No. Somewhat bizarrely, he didn't tell me what the name of the film was, and now he's out of mail contact for a good while.

I remember that there was a posting on the hipbase main page a little while ago about Gord covering Hallelujah. I would love to know more, but it looks like things are being kept under wraps, or have fizzled out. Sad

Here is a link to the movie.
Gord recorded a version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" for it.
"Saint Ralph"

You put me to shame Dana, per usual. Thanks! :thumb:

saw the film tonight - more than superb, and the rendition of Hallelujah is majestic
agreed...they have to release that song
the film is amazing and Gord's rendition of Hallelujah comes right at the climax. It is fan-friggin-tastic.

(not to mention that it was written by a guy who taught english at my high school when I was in Grade Nine and had references to priests who I had as teachers and stuff I learned in Latin class. too much coolness for one movie)

ct
I would shit lollipops just to hear that song
amen, brother. amen.

also, the movie's set in Hamilton.

ct
Someone has to start a band named Shit Lollipops. And I want a cut!
a soundtrack is being prepared for release...Hallelujah
Any word on whether the soundtrack will ever be commercially available? I periodically check HMV etc., but haven't seen anything yet.

ct
sorry to bring this back, but has anybody snatched a copy of the soundtrack? or at least the song?
Half my family is desperate for this song!
How the heck hasn't anyone managed to get a copy?
BLARGH!!! :censored
for serious!
