What are the "laws" regarding parking tickets?
I got a $60 ticket on December 3 for ""STAND VEHICLE SIGNED HIGHWAY PROHIBITED (TIMES/DAYS)"
My question is, do I have to pay it? What happens if I just throw it in my glovebox and forget about it?
As well, there were no signs indicating that where I parked was a 'No Parking' zone. I even put money in the meter to ensure that I was covered until 9pm, when parking is free.
Any suggestions?
In Ontario, you can't renew your plate stickers with outstanding tickets. Plus, they won't forget... trust me. I've got $250 in outstanding fines from 2003 that I should probably get around to paying.
It would cost more than $60 to fight it (Unless you go solo and, I dunno... laid the charm on the judge, or wore a neck brace into the court room) so I'm thinking: bite the bullet. Sadly, since Lionel Hutz is no longer with us, that's probably your only option.
Chris, SD is right, when you go to renew your stickers for your plates that ticket will come up with interest to boot. So dont get forget about it.
Did you leave the car overnight in the spot? Alot of spots are free after 9 pm, but there are many bylaws that do not allow parking say between 2 - 7 am.
To fight it you need a good reason why it was there. Ie, showing proof of a need to leave your car at the time the ticket was given.

I'll suck it up, and pay the fine. I was out for dinner, and I parked at 7:04pm, got ticketed at 9:08pm, and returned to my car at around 10:15pm. It totally ruined my night - mainly because it was for $60, and there was no discounted, voluntary payment amount.
Thanks for the info, guys.
Standing tickets are tough to fight. If it was a regular ticket I'd say fight it on your own.
Always fight a ticket on your own, I had a three hundred dollar ticket dropped to 50 bucks, 4 points down to 3. They are always willing to drop them. Just dress nice. Most of the people fighting look like bums or punk kids, they give you more respect if you look decent.

I think that's good advice for dealing with anybody in a position of authority. Eating crow and being deferential works like a charm... people love to be reminded how "important" they are.
So Chris, if you were going to fight it, you'd have to leave the fish nets and "My Other Shirt is Up Your Ass" T-shirt at home... and for God's sake shave those sideburns.
