i finally got my hands on a copy of the show i was at in 96 at maple leaf gardens... it was the first night of the two, the 12th of december...

i was in grade six and just starting to get into the hip...

anyway, i was just listening to fifty mission cap from that show and the second verse has some different lyrics... maybe "me and trudeau dissapeared.... we were on a canoeing trip..."

can't make all of it out, wonder if there's another show with a clearer recording where you can understand the whole thing...

"the last girl? he ever scored??"

thanks to anyone who can help me out.
Gord likes to change the lyrics of the songs sometimes when he's playing live..

and it's "just on trips"
I have a copy of a Calgary show from that tour on tape that has a verse about Trudeau. Could be a similar change there too.

Cheers

Pat

REALLY!!???!!?? that's so cool, i thought it was just a big mistake... next thing you're gonna tell me is that gordon downie forgets lyrics all together sometimes, or that there's secret albums that were released before 1999.

... please don't patronize me mr. 800 and some odd posts... i understand that you post on the hipbase several times a day and that's great but my request wasn't for you to show me the ways of the hip.

i don't know if you knew this but sometimes when gord changes the lyrics for one of his songs he does it more than once... like maybe for a couple of show or maybe even a whole tour... and believe it or not sometimes those rants turn into songs on their next album!!! isn't that cool.

so my question remains is there a clearer recording anyone has of a similar change...

thanks pat for the post... i'll check out the calgary show.
a) You're about to be called a dick by someone

b) Gordie never forgets lyrics...never...never ever ever...except that one time... "It would seem to me, I can't remember the second verse to this soooooooong"

c) There is only one secret HIP album. Unfortunetly you are not allowed to know about it, which is a shame, cause it has this song about some place in Canada..oh, man, its so good...its like, wow, ive been there...wow...its a shame you wont hear it...its so good...man...maybe they will play it live at the next secret concert they play, oh but wait, you wont know about that...hrmm...sorry man....

dick.

i'm not a dick and i'm sorry about going over the top with the sarcasm (didn't mean to offend anyone) but hip21's reply was completely unnecesary. it didn't address the topic of the post and he went out of his way to be condesending.

i visit and read several times a day and don't post all that much... that doesn't mean that when i do i should be talked down to.

i'm just a guy who loves the hip, 50 mission cap and canoe trips and wanted to find a recording that brought them all together in a slightly more audible way then the toronto show does.

I don't know if I would've assumed he was being condescending. He might've misread your post, figured you were just some newbie wondering why Gord had changed the lyrics (not knowing that Gord does change the lyrics), or maybe he was drunk as shit. I know him (somewhat well, lol) and I doubt he would've been purposely "talking down" to you.

And, on a side note, alot of the posts on here could be considered "completely unnecessary"... I don't know how you would categorize "necessary" on a forum dedicated to a band where we have threads on Gord's wardrobe (not that I'm dissing other's choices for discussion) and people asking stuff without searching for their answer and not to forget those weekly "favourite album" polls...

And someone might even go as far as saying what you posted was "unnecessary"... depending on the person. Not me... but people are different and hold different opinions of what they think might be important or not important and such, which you, of course, should already know.

I don't mean to sound like I'm dissing ya or anything like that (if you thought thehip21's post as condescending, you might take my post as the same) but I just don't think if I was in your shoes I would've assumed so soon what his intent was.

I'm not one to talk though; I have quite a few enemies on this board. :rambo:
In Winnipeg I've heard Gord change the lyrics to "Won the Jets the Cup" both in '96 and '99...very cool.
